Is the number of 144,000 a literal number of souls, or are they a special class of souls amoung the multitudes of souls to be in Heaven? After the flood, only 8 people survived that one....
...and is it good enough for us to not strive to BE one of the 144,000, but to just barely get inside the gates of Heaven? I heard a preacher one Sabbath say: " I don't care if I'm not a part of the 144,000, I just wanna get in" He may have been exhorting his sense of humor, but the desception is present in his statement. Often, satan will wrap his desceptions in humor, to get them past our inner securities, and we readily accept them while we laugh at them, all the while, not realizing that we've just been duped!
So, are we, or are we not to strive to be one of the 144,000 ???

Permalink Reply by Kristina Pauly on March 10, 2012 at 10:40am I have seen the sermon you are referring too and as much as I respect him and usually agree with him Doug is wrong on this one.. If I were you I would check in too some work done by one of your own from Australia, Elder Colin Standish.Read a book he wrote called "144000 The Great Multitude And The Return Of Jesus " It is a much deeper and more comprehensive study, of both scripture and SOP....

Permalink Reply by Mind Bender on March 10, 2012 at 10:48am Yes. As usual - Pastor Doug is right on.
It's clear that the number is symbolic.
But I suspect that we will have the conspiracy theorists who promote it as being a literal number.
As for me and mine - we will stick with the clear word of God.

I have to respectfully disagree with you here... In speaking of the end days the Bible states that if He didn't come when He does that no flesh would be left alive.. The 144,000 are the faithful that survive the tribulation.. Please read "144000 The Great Multitude And The Return Of Jesus " By Collin Standish, it is a much more detailed study, using only scripture and SOP.. No conspiracy stuff in this one.. lol
Let me know when you take a look at it....

I run the other way.
Thanks for the offer - but - No thanks.
The name of the author speaks volumes.
Permalink Reply by Kristina Pauly on March 10, 2012 at 11:19am Why is that? What has he said that is not from the Bible, and SOP?
I think of you as intellectually honest enough not too judge someones work before reading / hearing it your self, so I am curious....
From what I have read / seen of him he is a historic Adventist that has stood up to principalities and powers for his faith, and filled with the the Holy Spirit... (I have had the privilege of speaking with him in person, and I have never known such a humble, and dedicated servant of God.)
Permalink Reply by Mind Bender on March 10, 2012 at 12:26pm I don't doubt his sincerity and humbleness. But he is sincerely and humbly wrong.
Many will include the scriptures and the SOP in their erroneous beliefs. Error is always made to appear as close to truth as possible.
Pastor Doug is also sincere and humble. But in this case - he is sincerely speaking Truth.
Permalink Reply by Kristina Pauly on March 10, 2012 at 12:31pm I was asking you what error? What has he said (outside of the issue of the 144,000) that you do not agree with?
You said "When the name of Collin Standish come up - I run the other way."
What offense are you saying he has made to sound doctrine?
Permalink Reply by Mind Bender on March 10, 2012 at 12:36pm His beliefs do not stand up to the Adventist message.
There are plenty of good authors I have to read. Why waste my time with him?
It's a matter of trust.
I don't doubt that in some areas he is correct. But as with this doctrine - he is in error..
No matter - I would not waste my time with reading his propaganda. I'll stick with the tried and true such as Pastor Doug..
