Now that the state of California has also legalized marriages between people from the same sex, I wonder how we should relate to this matter. What should the church do when such a couple requests to be blessed in our church. Think about the reaction of human rights movements if we would say no. What will you do if you're invited to a same sex wedding.

This feels like a dungeon here having to listen to the legalistic pantheistic blabber from this evolutionist known as Billiter. I love my church. And I hate to see it dragged in the mud by such heresies as Billiter presents.
As a Seventh day Adventist .. this concerns me Gabe. As it does you too I assume. It is indeed scary.
Where do you get that idea? She says she is disturbed by Corbels liberal stance on gay marriages. Go read again what she said, it is very plain..
Michael you stated you would attend a gay wedding. You did not say you would go to preach Christ and Him crucified. Nor did you say you would teach the validity of the 7th commandment. Given this, many are disturbed by a 7th day Adventist pastor who would attend like its business a usual, which shows approval to that union whether you say so or not. The presence of anyone at such an event speaks volumes.

No one is fooled by your qualifier, except for 3 others. Who sail in the same ship as you. Birds of a feather will flock together.

Your position is out of line with the Bible, EGW, and the SDA church guidelines I posted.

We need pastors who rightly represent Godly positions, not the opposite. These two fine Christian ladies came on this blog and registered their extreme disapproval for your lackadaisical stance.

We need to pray for our church, its members and leaders. No one can become a mighty warrior for Jesus Christ unless he first commits to Him. Jemma is not a prophet but she did speak for God's law. So did Rochelle.

Mat 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Gays and all other sinners need to repent, the alternative is very tragic.They need Jesus, not support for their rebellion.
First Michael, it would really help if you don't say that others are forcing their views on you. That's not the issue here. The real issue should be are we searching for truth? Do we really care how God views our behavior and actions? Can we search the Bible and EGW and discover God's will for us? Or do we just say the heck with that and just do what we want?

I have yet to see someone say, "Michael you need to do that, or don't do that." Should this site not be about the free form exchange of our SDA beliefs and how they relate to our lives?

I brought out the idea that it could cause some to stumble, in which it could. If I cross the street and go into that casino when I think no one is looking and slip a bill in to try my luck and a church member just happens to be using the restroom or passing by and sees me, and that one is weak in the faith and Satan uses it to cause him to stumble, well, he could become lost.

1Jn 2:9 He that said he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.

1Jn 2:10 He that loves his brother stays in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

1Jn 2:11 But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 1 John 2:10. {OHC 174.1}

Satan is seeking by his temptations to obtain advantage over souls. Let nothing that you may do or say prove a temptation or discouragement to any soul. Remember he is the purchase of the blood of Christ. Every soul is precious. Only as you look to the cross of Calvary can you place a right estimate upon the soul. How sad a thing it would be to have anything you may do or say balance a soul in the wrong direction. You are bound by cords of obligation to God and to your fellow man; you cannot break these cords and free yourself from these obligations. {OHC 174.2}

We are builders for God, and we must build upon the foundation which He has prepared for us. No man is to build upon his own foundation, independent of the plan which God has devised. There are men whom God has raised up as counselors, men whom He has taught, and whose heart and soul and life are in the work. These men are to be highly esteemed for their work's sake. There are some who will wish to follow their own crude notions; but they must learn to receive advice and to work in harmony with their brethren, or they will sow doubt and discord that they will not care to harvest. It is the will of God that those who engage in His work shall be subject to one another. His worship must be conducted with consistency, unity, and sound judgment. God is our only sufficient helper. The laws which govern His people, their principles of thought and action, are received from Him through His word and Spirit. When His word is loved and obeyed, His children walk in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in them. They do not accept the world's low standard, but work from the Bible standpoint. {5T 270.1}
More David Asshericks and Doug Batchelors would be great! The real gospel would be preached to the world that much faster. We have have access to God, and all His truth that He has revealed. No one can say "I didn't know!"

Your take on what is happening is just incorrect as far as I'm concerned.We will disagree on that too.
Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.

Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night.

I don't think I would be too blessed by the Lord attending a gay "marriage." If we meditate upon His law, especially the 7th commandment, we shall be impressed not to stand in the way of sinners and attend gay weddings.

Just like I would not feel blessed attending a drunken party with drug users whether I did them or not. Guilty by association, a very valid point.

1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

This text seems to apply as well.
Amen Ian, I'm sure there is much more.
I think it is wise and what God would want us to do ... to attend the wedding if they are friends or relatives. If it causes someone to stumble ... they would have stumbled anyways. But it just might impress them to study how Jesus treated sinners.
At least we can pray it will.
N HIM, So go ahead and cause others to stumble, they would have stumbled anyway? What Bible are you reading? So make them stumble so they will then study Jesus? Why don't we just kick them out of the church and then they will become pastors and evangelists and who knows, maybe theologians too!

So attend the wedding (gay wedding) if they are relatives? That makes it OK?

Mat 10:37 He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:38 And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me.

Mat 10:39 He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.

My Bible tells me to obey Jesus first, no matter what family may do in opposition to that.
The 1977 annual council of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church voted that “gross sexual perversions, including homosexual practices, are recognized as a misuse of sexual powers and a violation of the divine intention in marriage. As such they are just cause for divorce.”—General Actions, p. 10. Reasons for which a person may be disfellowshipped from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church include “homosexual practice and other perversions.”—Seventh-Day Adventist Church Manual (revised 1986), p. 162.]

Then we hear about 7th day Adventist ministers who would attend a gay marriage giving license and support to these abominations. We must be truly near the end. We are seeing every uncouth and disgusting perversion, as well as "Adventists" giving unbridled sanction by their stated wish to attend such perverted sinful functions. What a mockery! God save us.

TSB 119.2 (Testimonies on Sexual Behavior, Adultery, and Divorce)

Sodomitish Impurity. Oh, how disgusted is God with the tame, lifeless, Christless efforts made by some of those who profess to be His servants! God’s work must be carried forward strongly and upward. This cannot be done unless the sensuality that corrupts the whole man is separated from the religious experience. This work must be done.

Duties and Obligations of Ministers. The Jewish priests were required to be, in person, all that was symmetrical and well-proportioned, that they might reflect a great truth. "Be ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord." The Lord required not only a well-proportioned mind and symmetrical body of the Jews' ministry in holy office, but He required also pure and uncorrupted minds. And He requires no less of us, in this dispensation, in the ministry of the gospel. His called and chosen are to show forth the praises of Him who hath called them out of darkness into His marvelous light. The same Bible that contains the privileges of God's people, and His promises to them, contains also the sacred duties and the solemn obligations He requires of the shepherd who has charge of the flock of God; so that the people can see by comparing the living preacher with the divine picture whether he has credentials from heaven in likeness of character to Him who is the Chief Shepherd. God designs that the teacher of the Bible should in his character and home life be a specimen of the principles of the truth which he is teaching to his fellow men. {TSB 82.1}
