Do you think that the Seventh-day Adventist church should allow hip hop in the church to draw the young people in? What do you think.

ITA , when it comes to music the church is as hypocritical as any Pharisee... if we truely want 'holy' only church based music then throw away the hymnal and use Gregorian chants.
Excellent points Charlie
I would have to agree with you on that point MsMS. I've been observing that on this topic.

Bro Charlie: are you ironic?

My opinion on this is that it is not our job to draw anyone to Christ that is the work of the Holy Spirit. We are supposed to be a perculiar people and therefore in all that we do and say that should be reflected. If people in the world are lokking for a change wh would we give them exactly what they are leaving from? I say that we continue to lift the standard high and let our light shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.
At the moment hip hop has negative cultural associations so folks might not be able to get over the mental gap to accept it in the church, give it another 50 or 100 years and the musical genre will be acceptable.Consider the music we play in church today, 100 years ago would be considered of the devil, consider some of our hymn tunes were based on folk songs or songs sung in local taverns aka bars or clubs...time makes 'worldly' music acceptable to the church. The story goes even Mahalia Jackson, great gospel singer, got the brush off from Adventism until she performed for Queen Elizabeth II then we jumped on the band wagon....When it comes to our church classical music for some strange reason reigns supreme...Maybe we should start performing Don Giovanni and other operas in our local churches since they are based on classical music and not that nasty hip hip, reggae, jazz.....
So the idea of Christianized HipHop or Rock to serve as a bridge to bring in youth is a great deception. Here is the problem with this bridge idea...Bridges work both ways. You might bring one into the fold. and you might open an interest for a Godly youth into worldly music. Also look at the instruments in the bible that were not allowed in the temple. Identify what these instruments and their descendents are. And lastly, Why are we as Christians confused so easily when satan impresses a soul to put a tag "Christian" before something bad? We would all agree rock is of sin...Oh but we stumble over "Christian" Rock.... or hiphop, or rap. Lets not sell ourselves short brothers and sisters. We are more than this.

I have to rely on the Word of God and the prophet over anybodys opinions or personal beliefs (including my own). We have to learn how to follow and obey a "thus saith the Lord".

The servant of the Lord says in Selected Messages vol.2, pg.36-37....

"The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time. Better never have the worship of God blended with music than to use musical instruments to do the work which last January was represented to me would be brought into our camp meetings. The truth for this time needs nothing of this kind in its work of converting souls. A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend with the din and noise, to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit's working. When the camp meeting is ended, the good which ought to have been done and which might have been done by the presentation of sacred truth is not accomplished. Those participating in the supposed revival receive impressions which lead them adrift. They cannot tell what they formerly knew regarding Bible principles. No encouragement should be given to this kind of worship. The same kind of influence came in after the passing of the time in 1844. The same kind of representations were made. Men became excited, and were worked by a power thought to be the power of God.... {2SM 37.2}

...The question we should be asking ourselves is, "do we still believe in the end-time prophet for the last day church"???

Sis. White tells us that when we see this "uncouth" music with drums come into the church, "we are just before the close of probation". That should make the hair on the back of your neck stand up! "Uncouth"...'which means- unusual or strange, uncivil'. Why do we have this foolishness in the church??? Because we want to be just like the world. We want to be just like the other churches (1st day churches). We are to be a different & peculiar people. The reason why this foolishness is in the church is because of a lack of understanding of the solemn Day of Atonement.

This matter is really a matter or question of obedience. It is also having an understanding of the Day of Atonement. We must understand the Day of Atonement worship principles which are outlined in the Word of God and especially in the Spirit of Prophecy.

Sis. White tells us that there is nothing wrong with musical instruments in our worship service. But she never promoted drums for a SDA worship service. She also rebuked loud music and carnival/celebration music. She calls this a "bedlam of noise". When music becomes the focal point of our worship service, then we have taken our eyes off of Jesus and have placed them on the musicians, instruments, and emotions. The Bible and the prophet tells us that we are in the solemn Day of Atonement. EVERYTHING CHANGES ON THE DAY OF ATONEMENT. Worship style changes on the Day of Atonement.The Day of Atonement is solemn. We need to understand how to worship God on the Day of Atonement.

Why not ask if we should allow prostitution in the church?  Or how about stealing?  Maybe even a little murder too?  And how about having a seance in the church?  All of these are from the same source, it matters not which one you let in, they soon will all be in as they are all in the same package.

Happy Sabbath!
