Happy Sabbath Everyone! I just wrote a blog about my experience at a church I visited today, and I have some more questions. The church I was at today had a Baptist like atmosphere, with a choir, singing and dancing, and the congregation shouting during the pastor's sermon. My question is, is this ok? Or are they going against Ellen G. White's teaches? It was very interesting and shocking to me, because the other SDA church I visited was nothing like this.
Well ... variety is the spice of life. To each his own. If you are not comfortable with it ... I hope you can find another house of worship. But, I pray you will not be critical of others who prefer this praise worship.
It is certainly Biblical to have a choir with singing and dancing and with the congregation involved with the worship. If I were to guess ... it probably was more "African" style than "Baptist". But either way ... there are many cultural and spiritual ways to praise God. But let's not restrict the manner of others. I realize we have our own bias but let's show tolerance.
Ok, I was just asking because as I was going through the forum here it was seeming like this type of worship was condemmed. Overall it was a pretty nice church, though the people could have been a little nicer. But I am considering visiting again because I know churches can sometimes have off days.
Of course you can always find various opinions of scripture. And both sides with plenty of Bible texts. In the end ... you have to decide for your self rather than to hear my view or any other view on this Forum.
God bless your pursuit of what God wants for you. But when you find it ... don't insist that others do or think the same way. That is the problem that I see on Forums. I think we as Christians need to allow the Holy Spirit to work on each person at HIS pace .. not our's.
Just my two cents worth. I'm not saying you would do any of that.
And yes ... give the church another try. Try reaching out to them rather than them reaching out to you. Some times that works good.
I go to a very friendly church. Each time and I do mean EVERY time I go to church ... someone stands up during praise time and says how glad they are to see me and then during prayer time ... it is also stated in the prayer. This may be hard to believe ... but it is true. Now don't go expecting that with the churches you visit. I am just sharing about mine.
I dont like the swingfest type worship and dont think it is of God.
I've tried to go along with it before but it doesnt seem fitting.
The shouting and excitement is of the devil so beware.
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him -John 4:23
Yes. Good Point Travis. And if God did require them to go to church ... I am sure he would ask for them to make sure they would gyrate their hips. Seriously ... we do have to be careful to make sure we are not trying to make scripture say something it's not.
Why do you believe God would ask them to "gyrate" their hips? I'm sure you may have your reason, but out of everything I've read, I can't find any hint to that. Then you follow saying we have to make sure we dont try to make Scripture say something its not. There is no evidence for dancing in church. Ok, as the term "being or attending church" I'm sure is not gonna fit well here, I'll replace it with worship service. I have not seen the slightest hint for dancing during a worship service. Especially these last days where we are to be giving that final warning of the 3 angels, not dancing around.
