The Bible's most notoriously erotic book, the Song of Solomon is said to be a symbolic dramatization of the love relationship between God and his chosen people, and between Christ and his bride, the church. From your own reading, can you see how this interpretation was arrived at? Or do you have another take you can share with us?

Solomon's Song may well be our Bible's most mysterious book.

I do not know how that Book made it into the Bible as your article ends with this:

"If this wonderful woman was an actual lover and thus a part of that harem—even if she were, as some claim, his exclusive bride of chaster times—what does that say to us about enduring fidelity in a monogamous marriage? And if she wasn’t, couldn’t the entire Song of Solomon be little more than a lecherous fantasy, thus raising Luther’s High Song about as high as the widely supposed author’s colossal libido?"

As we know the Bible says that Solomon disobeyed God in every respect he had more wives and concubines than he could ever cover even with his colossal libido. Solomon was all about lust and riches. Maybe in his old age, he came to realise what a fool he was. as it says

Ecc 11:8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
Ecc 11:9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
Ecc 11:10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

Yet not only did it make it into the Bible, Our theologians would have us believe it represents the love relationship between Christ and his bride. Just another example that shows the importance of thinking for ourselves.

I do not know why it made it into the Bible because we know many of Solomons writings did not make it into the Bible. But as it says:

Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

As humans our understanding is limited. I have seen mere humans presuming to judge the word of God. Little teeny-weeny dependant humans with tiny brains and sinful imaginations sitting as arbiter of the word of God saying of the Bible, this books is not inspired or of the SOP this statement or quote is not inspired, how pompous, how bloated are we humans who are made with dirt...

Amen Jason, Ivor Myers had a wonderful sermon on prophecy found in the book of Songs of Solomon. I wish I could find the link.  From different times and various places how many different churches will be the Bride of Christ.

Note sure whether this is the one

The Old Testament is very graphic and shows all of humanities warts and lumps.  There is no doubt that flaws of these people depicted in the OT are a foreshadow various things.  Some people commenting in this thread may be uptight about sex.  People in OT times were probably earthy and objective about such things.

A bride will not remain a bride forever. The symbolism is also seen in our own human relationships.  A bride is one who has been chosen, and is in waiting to be joined to the groom in marriage.

God is showing us the purpose of the church, and that purpose is to marry the Son who gave himself for the bride.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her…

The Son of God, will marry the church and bring her (the church) into the God Family.  The Father and Son are God beings, when the church is brought into family of God through this marriage, the church will become of the same nature as the Father and Son.

Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as a delicate vessel, and with honor as fellow heirs of the gracious gift of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

Through the bible, God has been teaching us and is preparing us to understand the true purpose of marriage and the true purpose of the church.

Jesus answered, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ 5and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”…

No bride is a bride forever, but becomes the wife and takes on the name of the husband. The Church will become gods, just as Jesus Christ is God. The church will reign with the Son, for a thousand years as helpmate, and it will be through this marriage and the consummation of this marriage that children will come into the family of God.

First the marriage and then the children comes through the marriage. The children of course will never have the same relationship as the husband and the wife; they will never be on the wife level, they will never be as close to the husband as the wife.

So we will be gods? How many gods will there be then? Remember we will become the family of God. Like the angels. In other words we will replace the fallen angels ...

The family of God are gods, they are not the family of angels, and nor can angels become gods. They will be as the angels in that they will be spirit being living forever. The church will not take the place of angels fallen, but through the church God is recreating Himself. Only God’s own family can be entrusted with such power, and only gods of the family of God can ensure the stability of the universe. This authority and responsibility will belong to the Son and church who will reign with him at his coming.
