Where in Scripture does it say tithing is based on one's income rather than the increase of the land one owned? I came across this passaage by Ellen WHite and it seems Ananias died because He cheated on tithe, yet the Nt Testament doesn't say why exactly they died....only that they lied...

All our blessings come from His bountiful hand. In turn, He would have men and women show their gratitude by returning Him a portion in tithes and offerings--in thank offerings, in freewill offerings, in trespass offerings. Should means flow into the treasury in accordance with this divinely appointed plan,--a tenth of all the increase, and liberal offerings,--there would be an abundance for the advancement of the Lord's work.       But the hearts of men become hardened through selfishness, and, like Ananias and Sapphira, they are tempted to withhold part of the price, while pretending to fulfill God's requirements. {AA 75.1}

Is this a NT example of tithe paying gone wrong with a selfish intent?

Remember the tithe is always 10 percent

Except for Brother Ian, you have missed the point of the topic, WHy does Ellen White allude to this lying being about tithe cheating by Ananais ?

Here is the quote again....

Nowhere do we find tithe mentioned in the NT in big passages except here....

What do you all think ?

Brother Rod his offering was more than his tithe.  He had already decide that he would give 10 percent-tithe, and 90 percent offering, but he reneged

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7.

Remember the tithe is always 10 percent

I agree with you Jason, you write many good things in your posts...

This example shows more than tithe gone wrong, but the whole concept of promising an offering and then lying to God, I suspect he spoke his promise publically too....

We tend to see tithe as the end of our love, but it's really just the beginning of our test...

She is not alluding to theft of tithe as to the reason they were destroyed. They died because they made a commitment to give a certain amount of money from the proceeds of their property. After making the commitment, they decided that they did not want to. Now at this point, if they had been honest and said they wanted to keep some of it, it would not have been sin. Peter said as much when he said "Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?". They wanted to seem more pious than they were and lied about it. That is why they were destroyed. It had nothing to do with tithe.

Ezra while what you say is OK, Mrs White does make a simile that lying about commitment is the same as lying with out tithe giving...I see this in her writing is a simile, a common thing in the Bible is to make parallels

What do you think , note her SOP includes words as Ananias, selfishness and tithe, all in one paragraph

Shalom
