Adventist Online

In the August 2012 edition of the Ministry Magazine, that is sent to Adventist Pastors, there is an editorial by Derek Morris.  (See the attached file.)

The opening paragraph is as follows.

"The apostle Paul gave important advice to Christians living in Thessalonica and slto to each one of us today.  "Examine everything carefully, hold fast to that which is good." (1 Thess. 5:21 NASB)

Then in a side box are these words.

"WE NEED A FIRM BIBLICAL FOUNDATION."

 No truer words have ever been spoken.  As Ellen White has written:

   "Agitate, agitate, agitate! The subjects which we present to the world must be to us a living reality. It is important that in defending the doctrines which we consider fundamental articles of faith, we should never allow ourselves to employ arguments that are not wholly sound. These may avail to silence an opposer, but they do not honor the truth. We should present sound arguments, that will not only silence our opponents, but will bear the closest and most searching scrutiny. . . ."  {CW 40.3}

We have been bombarded over the past few years with various topics.  Some of which have been:

  • Use of the Wedding Ring.
  • The Celebraion Movment
  • The Passover movement.
  • Wild music in the church services
  • Drama being presented

and of course, now

  • Ordaining anyone who will.
  • Accepting homosexuals as church leaders.
  • Meditation and both Centering and Contemplative Prayer,
  • Etc.

These are not all of the heresies, but a representation.  None of these would have ever seen the light of day had Paul's advice along with that of Isaiah 8:20, and the advice Jesus gave:  John 5:30 etc. been followed.

When any topic gains as large of a following as these have, as well as others, it brings into stark question the motto that is not heard much anymore, that Adventist are: "The People of the Book."

As we approach the judgement, we should be drawing closer to God's instrucitons, not trying to see just how many things we can "get away with."  For in God's judgement, no one will get away with anything.  Either we trust God so completely that we will allow Him to instill all of His instructions into our life, or we will be lost.

Jesus cannot plead: "My Blood" for someone who is trying to change what God has said.  It is only as we overcome sin in the same way that Jesus overcame sin, that we can be with Him in heaven.  See Rev. 3:21.

Those who are peaching a different gospel/doctrine, other then the one Paul presented, even if it appears to be an angel from heaven, they are accursed.  Gal 1:8, 9.  Nowhere does Paul give instructions for any of the teachings that have been pushed on the church.  Therefore, all who are teaching these variant opinions that they carry, according to Paul, are accursed.

Our teachings must be able to sustain he closest examination by God's word.  Anything less is unacceptable.  None of these teachings even come close to standing up when closely examined by God's word.

Hi Ray,

Thank you for sharing these words.

It could be that we are well on our way towards the climax of the shaking and the sifting.

Every wind of opinion seems to be blowing and still we are encouraged by the Bible and the Spirit of prophecy regarding the many errors flourishing in our midst...

Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. (Proverbs 19:27)

Man's words, if of any value, echo the words of God. {PH124 46.2}

We cannot with safety accept the opinions of any man (or woman), however learned, unless they are in harmony with the words of the Great Teacher. The opinions of erring men (and women) will be presented for our acceptance, but God's Word is our authority, and we are never to accept human teaching without the most conclusive evidence that it agrees with the teaching of God's Word. We are to know that we do know that we are standing on the platform of eternal truth--the Word of the living God. {TMK 210.3}

Thank you for allowing my reply

Some wise counsel from the throne of Heaven.  Human opinions are a "dime a dozen."  Even with inflation. G  However, God's word abides forever.  That is what will carry us through into the kingdom of God.

I just finished watching the meeting that was taped on Night Line in Cinncinati, Ohio where Ted Wilson and four others discussed the issues the church is facing.  We must pray for them, for possibly no other General Conference President needs our prayers any more then he does right now.  Satan is angry and he is seeking who he may devour.  Only the power of the HOly Spirit will save us from his anger.

Maranatha :)
