Anyone who could answer these 2 questions for me about fasting?

(1)  How long and what type of fast is right for you, and

(2)  How to prepare yourself spiritually and physically

Thank you.

You are correct Vincent.

Isaiah 58:1-14 (KJV)
1Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.2Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.3Wherefore have we fasted, [say they], and thou seest not? [wherefore] have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.4Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as [ye do this] day, to make your voice to be heard on high.5Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? [is it] to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?6[Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?7[Is it] not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.9Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I [am]. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;10And [if] thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness [be] as the noonday:11And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.12And [they that shall be] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.13If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [thine own] words:14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].

Thanks for citing that verse Carlos. Im going to shift topic for a moment. Have you tried fasting? If so, what made you decide to do so? What was your purpose?
Now, I am thinking of doing a one or two-day fasting. And yes, fasting always goes hand in hand with praying. Thanks for sharing your insight and experience Vincent. God bless!

For regular, healthy people:

1. During waking hours on the monthly fast we will not eat solid food.

2. Drink plenty of water.

3. Juices (100%, no sugar added) and broths are fine.

4. Stay away from sugary drinks.

• If you have a medical condition or disorder of any kind that prevents you from fasting safely OR If you are pregnant or nursing, don't fast from food. In this instance, do a “Daniel fast”.

The Daniel Fast:

Daniel 10:2-3 (NET)

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three whole weeks. I ate no choice food;

no meat or wine came to my lips, nor did I anoint myself with oil [lotions] until the

end of those three weeks.”

1. During waking hours on the monthly fast, you will consume no meat, alcohol, or “choice foods”. (In other words, don't eat the foods you want. Eat healthy, simple foods that are not your favorite things. Choose something that will provide nutrition, but not what your flesh wants. Use modest portions)

2. No lotions (In other words, don't pamper yourself. Decide beforehand what this means for you.)

3. Drinks & Liquids— Same as above.

Don't Pray Like A Hypocrite

Matthew 6:1, 5-6

“Be careful not to display your righteousness merely to be seen by people. Otherwise

you have no reward with your Father in heaven... Whenever you pray, do not be like

the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street

corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But

whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in

secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.”

Don't Fast Like A Pharisee

Matthew 6:16-18 Proper Fasting

“When you fast, do not look sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces

unattractive so that people will see them fasting. I tell you the truth, they have their

reward. When you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not

be obvious to others when you are fasting, but only to your Father who is in secret.

1.) A juice fast for 30 days it the limit to what I can do without hurting my self.. Though a week long water fast is not bad either..

2.) Before you fast it is good to load up on a ton of carbohydrates for two days before you start to give your body something to run off of for a while.. As for the spiritual, abide in almost nothing but scripture and sermons once you have started the fast..

1.  The answer to this question can only be given by a medical doctor.  A person may have health issues that do not allow them to fast for long periods.  The bible does not stipulate how long you should fast.  God gave us a powerful tool called "choice".  Use it.

2.  Seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit for preparation and you good to go.

Those are very informative brothers and sister. Thank you Bryan, Kristina and Reay for all your helpful replies. I really appreciate it. God bless you and have a great day. :)

My pleasure.. Just make sure that if you do the juice fast you do mostly veggie juice.. The recipe that I found to keep me going best is this one..

1 bunch Kale

1 hand full Spinach

1 Lemon

1 thumb size peace Ginger Root

6 Granny Smith Apples

1 head Celery

This should make a full pitcher of juice. If it is to tart add some Stevia, and it will make it taste like a yummy green lemonade.

Oh wow! Looks healthy! Thanks Kristina and also for the accept! :)

My pleasure.. :0)

I got the recipe as well as the idea from a documentary called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead".

It is very healthy.. This juice is from the nutritionist of the guy who did the documentary..

You should be able to watch it online for free... It you have Netflix you can definitely get it free..

thanks for the info,.. :) unfortunately netflix isnt avialable in my country... i definitely will try the recipe though. :)
