Adventist Online

Hi brethrens:

Just today, I had two friendly Jehovah Witness at my door.  They spoke efficiently Vietnamese to me, which I understood it.  So just interested, I had a conversation with them.  They seem very sincere and love God.  They also been to many Sunday churches, but seem to be not familiar w/ Adventists.  They also were wearing jewelery and makeup.  Anyway, I just let them share their doctrines, there are so many fallacies that I don't know where to begin.

Anyway, they started out using the New Living Translation -- they said it's the most reliable, is there anyone that have evidence, proofs that NLT is not reliable?

They explained that the Holy Spirit is a "moving force" according to Genesis 1:2
They said, that there's only one God Jehovah, and that they were implying the Son was created
As I ask them about Matthew 28:19 - they said that yes Holy Spirit is an it, the power is given by Father
So I ask them about 1 John 5:7 "three bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost" and so they said, "you know only the KJV Bible has that."  none other bibles has that.
So I explained to them the history of the Latin Vulgate vs Textus Receptus, and that only the KJV is Textus Receptus.  They said, the NLT is very accurate b/c it's masoretic Hebrew text, and Greek.  And that Martin Luther changed back to Roman Catholic, and they will bring proof next week.

They told me that calling God Yehovah is knowing God closer, so I ask them does it relate to God's Character, and they agree on that.  I am planning to show them about that was referring to the Law.

Anyway, I would meet them in one week, appreciate, any feedback, documents on reliability of Textus Receptus, any approach.  I am sure any seeker of truth will want truth that include JW.  Last time, I approach directly into the Sabbath, and it did not help much :-).  As I learned that truth cannot be force, but win only by leading.  Anyone with experience, advice about JW is appreciated?

I was going to reply but I see that you have already found the other thread dealing with this subject. I stand by everything that I said in that thread. If you need any further help/elaboration please let me know and if I can help I will.
Hi JohnB

Thank you. I will go by your method. Though I am not going to be "naughty" b/c I am not married. My question is how can I make them less trusted in their faulty Bible, any source, b/c they said their bible is more trusted.

Yes, I notice the conversation, they talked about Commandt # 6, already. And you know God better if you call him Yehovah. I feel there is an strong itch, when they said Jesus was created too.

Should I spend most the time going through the Sabbath as a covenant, a sign, and that will determine the seal of God. Thanks.
you can use their bible without much problems. every bible is faulty to some degree. take the kjv. its difficult to teach the sanctuary doctrine from that bible because hebrews is misinterpreted. where their bible is faulty you can go to the original words to show them what it really means.

we have to do that anyway with any version.
Hi Teresa,

I thought the KJV is best to point out the Sanctuary in book of Hebrew. I had other versions, I threw them away b/c of the distorsion about the sanctuary. If I am confused, I just look up in its original language transliteration. But I wish that I have that ability to use any sword to beat the devil. Thank you for your advice.
im curious as to how you are able to do that since the kjv says Christ entered the most holy upon ascension to heaven. there are a few translations such as the rv and youngs analytical translation that translate hebrews correctly. (i know because just a very few years ago i was in a ss clase where they did that. i had my nrsv and pointed out the true translation.)

http://www.t3asda.org/articles/Hagion%20Bible%20Versions%20Comparis...

it has been many years but i remember the studies our church used to have to explain the correct meaning of hebrews because of the kjv interpretation. the same with "hell" and several other issues. in reading the pioneers i regularly come across times where they point out the original is different than the kjv. they even printed a partial list where someone had pointed out all the errors of the kjv in a book.

my experience is that all translations have error but God will point them out. it would be most difficult for man to not translate with error when attempting such a lofty job.
Hi Teresa

Thank you for the list. Could you point to the verse(s) please?
But it's very interesting as I am looking at it.
I think Desmond Ford was not able to reconcile that is why he chose that route of direct entrance into the Most Holy.
the verses are compared on a chart in the link. at that same link is another reference if youd like to check that one out also.

my understanding is that the youngs literal translation is the most reliable, but can be difficult to read.
Good Point. I doubt much is accomplished by arguing the Bible with someone who is there to convert YOU.
Doubt prevents us doing a lot of things...

Many years ago I entertained two Jehovah's Witnesses every week as they came to study with me, They expressed their belief, I expressed mine. After some weeks passed only one of them came to see me, to tell me that they would not be returning. They had listened to me each week and had come to a crisis of faith, no longer sure that they could believe the JW teachings.

Sadly, I was a Buddhist at the time and so I'm don't know what had actually been acheived... However, it does go to show that nothing is impossible. How much more so if you are working with prayer and the Holy Spirit? We are only limited by the extent of our faith.
Thank you everyone for your advice.

I remember in past too, that I discuss w/ them on the Sabbath, and they never cam back too. I was a Buddhist newly converted then. But I find out that it is best to be meek, and point out their faulty idea without attacking them.

I only study KJV and its translation, so I am not familiar w/ other bibles. But you're right friendship, be friendly, approachable, ask question. Don't force truth on someone who have different set of "truth". Yes, prayer and asking for Holy Spirit, I will do.
John .... Of course ... I could list quotes from Sister White on this subject ... as could you. But that would be fruitless. I don't mean to try to 'convert' you lol !!!
