For what is the purpose of our salvation? Is it just to go the heaven and live forever because you’re a good person? Is it to sit at Jesus feet, or to build mansions, or go over records?

He has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not because of our own works, but by His own purpose and by the grace He granted us in Christ Jesus before time eternal. 2 Timothy 1:9

God has called with a holy calling, for His own purpose. It is not any man’s purpose, but it’s God’s alone.

And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.

This is not a future act. In the mind of God it has already happened. God has predestined it, He has nurtured His purpose from its very conception. God’s call is to fulfill His own purpose, but what is the purpose, is there secret about salvation?

God’s work of salvation is far greater than our minds can imagine. First, God saves and then calls those who are saved, He justifies them and glorify them.

No one can save themselves; it is God who saves. Jesus points this out and says,

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them and I will raise him up at the last day.”

It is God’s purpose that those who are called are justified; and glorified; they will be raised in the last days. But why, for what purpose?

This very purpose of God is being fulfilled in the work Jesus is now doing in heaven.

Therefore Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance….

As the only one who could be the mediator of a new covenant, Jesus by his own death, has secured the promised eternal inheritance for those who are called; he qualified to be mediator for those who are called.

The world is not called, only those predestined to fulfill God purpose; in John 17:9, Jesus prayed.

I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.

Jesus is now mediator, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance….

But what is the promised eternal inheritance and why is it given to those who are called?

In Matthew 13:11, Jesus replied to the disciple’s question, by saying,

“The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.…

Why, and what is this all about? What is the mysteries or secrets of the kingdom of heaven?

to truly realize how loved and forgiven we are is alusive to far too many

Gene said: "The world is not called, only those predestined to fulfill God purpose; in John 17:9, Jesus prayed." Gene, you have the wrong idea GOD loves the world and sent HIS Son to make it possible to save it.

John 2:16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son[c] so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it. (TLB)

Jesus gave His Life for the whole world but He forces no one to BELIEVE It takes more than one text to understand the purpose of God. I see you here have quoted some of your favorite texts, but the Bible is a harmonious whole and is given to men for the purpose of salvation.

Rev 3:18  So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. 19  I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. 20  “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21  Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. 22  “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

Elijah,

The bible does share in many regards God’s purpose as it relates to “those who are called” and says this;

For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, …

This is why Jesus himself is the mediator of a new covenant.

Therefore Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, …

Those who are called will receive the promised eternal inheritance, this is a promise and God’s purpose.

One definition of inheritance is:

"the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring."

Romans 8:29 says,

For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, …

They will be conformed to the image of His Son by obtaining the same genetic qualities as the Son.

God is creating other gods; children of God, and Jesus is the firstborn among many brothers.  This is what Nicodemus did not understand when Jesus said “you must be born again.”

This is God’s purpose for those who are called, and this is why Jesus is the mediator of a new covenant and not involved in any investigative judgment.

But here again I must ask, for what purpose are they to become the children of God?

I do not like your post Gene it sounds too much like a Mormon sermon.

 Thanks Elijah

I don’t know what Mormons ascribe to, so I can’t speak to that.

Gene said:  I don’t know what Mormons ascribe to, so I can’t speak to that.

When you say this: God is creating other gods;

That straight from the Book of Mormon, what Nicodemus did not understand was about the Holy Spirit, just like you. And that was the whole point of the chapter.

Maybe you know Adam was the son of God. So when the Devil led Adam and Eve astray the sonship was broken that is why Jesus came here to make it possible for us to be restored as children of God. The second Adam as you may have read. We will never be gods as you put it, Jesus will be our elder brother as He had to take on the likeness of humanity.

Php 2:6  who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, 7  but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. 8  And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (MKJV)

Elijah, did you go to the same school as Nicodemus? He didn’t understand the secret of being born again either.  God is creating children of God; a God family.

“Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance…”

2 Peter 1: 3-4 says,

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4Through these He has given us His precious and magnificent promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature…

This is the promise, that those who are called will become partakers of the divine nature. They will take on divinity just as Jesus who is the first born on many.

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that the Son might be the firstborn among many brothers.

What is the image of his Son, is he not God? Jesus the man became Son of God by virtue of the resurrection; he was born again. So, as he explains to Nicodemus, one cannot see nor enter the kingdom of God unless they are born again of the spirit.

…6Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit. 7Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”…

To say Jesus is our big brother proves the point because as brothers we are within the family of God.

Here’s another point.  Jesus sits on the Father throne with the Father because he is God as the Father. Those who are born again will sit with Jesus on his throne because they will be as Jesus.

Revelation 3:21 He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

But why will they share Jesus throne, is there a secret about salvation that is hidden?

Thanks for your reply, Gene. What you say is true but that does not make us god's as you put it family of God yes and sitting with Jesus on His throne, yes, but god's no newer that is Mormonism.
