Some have had a burden in regard to the wearing of a marriage ring, feeling that the wives of our ministers should conform to this custom. All this is unnecessary. Let the ministers' wives have the golden link which binds their souls to Jesus Christ, a pure and holy character, the true love and meekness and godliness that are the fruit borne upon the Christian tree, and their influence will be secure anywhere. The fact that a disregard of the custom occasions remark, is no good reason for adopting it. Americans can make their position understood by plainly stating that the custom is not regarded as obligatory in our country. We need not wear the sign, for we are not untrue to our marriage vow, and the wearing of the ring would be no evidence that we were true. I feel deeply over this leavening process which seems to be going on among us, in the conformity to custom and fashion. Not one penny should be spent for a circlet of gold to testify that we are married. In countries where the custom is imperative, we have no burden to condemn those who have their marriage ring; let them wear it if they can do so conscientiously; but let not our missionaries feel that the wearing of the ring will increase their influence one jot or tittle. If they are Christians, it will be manifest in their Christlikeness of character, in their words, in their works, in the
If you find that your opposition to a wedding band is causing others to stumble .... then avoid pushing this on others. This is just a divisive issue. We should be careful with our dogmatic approaches and try to keep our beliefs ... just that ... OUR beliefs and not try to impose them on others.
To each his or her own.
But one thing for sure ... we should not be looking to the behaviour of others. We should not allow what someone else does to discourage us . Look to Jesus ... the author of our faith.
Amen 4Him, thats the most important matter. Do what enhances your personal relationship with God and stop assuming all other Adventists should be just like you (generic), we are Adventists not Borgs...
In heaven I don't think I am ready to compare with here. We'll be perfect in heaven. Not something we are here. But following that logic, theres more we can ask (which I do not encourage)
Noah got drunk and laid around naked. Should we? Lot, impregnated his own daughters. Should we? David danced (leaped for joy). Should we be hitting up the clubs? I had other examples in mind but I'm coming up blank now.. I can find more if necessary but rather not.
We see not only the good and perfect times of the righteous, we see and can learn from areas they were not a good example.
I don't see anything wrong with picking up on the fact that the Bible does not encourage the wearing of jewelry and would actually seem to go against it. For those who see this, which I do not think is something I'm making up... well actually no one here is saying anything towards it being wrong not wearing rings so I don't need to go there.
I guess the best I could say is for one to look up all the instances of jewelry which includes rings they can in the Bible. Using a concordance or using key terms in input fields in Biblegateway.com, and based on all the verses gathered, see if anything starts to become clear. If not, then to continue searching out more verses and see what picture you get then. To be then convinced by the multiple verses they read, as opposed to what I am posting here.
