Dear friends,i am writing this post for those who told me that the Jews are still keeping the same Sabbath Jesus kept.Jesus kept the divine Sabbath not the Gregorean one and here is the evidence.

Christians who observe a Saturday Sabbath commonly believe that the Jews have always kept perfect track of when the true Sabbath occurs. The reasoning is this: "The Jews would never worship on any other day but the true Sabbath, therefore, because they themselves worship on Saturday that must be the true Sabbath of the Bible."

It is true that the Jews never lost track of the true Sabbath. However, they did, deliberately and knowingly, change their calendar by which the true Sabbath was calculated. The following quotes, taken from Jewish scholars and historians are but a small sampling of the evidence available to support the fact that the Jews, by their own admission, changed the calendar established by Yahuwah at Creation and reestablished by Moses. (All emphasis supplied unless otherwise noted.)

The New Moon is still, and the Sabbath originally was, dependent upon the lunar cycle . . . Originally, the New Moon was celebrated in the same way as the Sabbath; gradually it became less important while the Sabbath became more and more a day of religion and humanity, of religious meditation and instruction, of peace and delight of the soul. (Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, "Holidays," p. 410.)

With the development of the importance of the Sabbath as a day of consecration and the emphasis laid upon the significant number seven, the week became more and more divorced from its lunar connection . . . . (Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, Vol. X, "Week," p. 482.)

Under the reign of Constantius (337-362) the persecutions of the Jews reached such a height that . . . the computation of the calendar [was] forbidden under pain of severe punishment" (excerpted from The Jewish Encyclopedia, "Calendar.")

Declaring the new month by observation of the new moon, and the new year by the arrival of spring, can only be done by the Sanhedrin. In the time of Hillel II [4th century A. D.], the last President of the Sanhedrin, the Romans prohibited this practice. Hillel II was therefore forced to institute his fixed calendar, thus in effect giving the Sanhedrin’s advance approval to the calendars of all future years." ("The Jewish Calendar and Holidays (incl. Sabbath): The Jewish Calendar: Changing the Calendar," www.torah.org.)

The present Jewish calendar was fixed in the fourth century. (Letter by Louis Finkelstein, Jewish Theological Seminary of America, to Dr. L. E. Froom, Feb. 20, 1939.)

Maimonides and most other Jewish chronologers agree that the modern Jewish calendar is based upon the "mean motions of the sun and moon, the true having been set aside." (Maimonides, Kiddusch Ha-hodesch, Tr. Mahler, Wein, 1889.)

Intercalations [of the calendar] were determined at meetings of a special commission of the Sanhedrin. But Constantius, following the tyrannous precedents of Hadrian, prohibited the holding of such meetings . . . How difficult the fixing of the annual calendar consequently became may be judged from an enigmatic letter addressed to Raba . . . and preserved in the Talmud . . . .

Almost the whole Diaspora depended for the legal observance of the feasts and fasts upon the calendar sanctioned by the Judea Sanhedrin; yet danger threatened the participants in that sanction and the messengers who communicated their decisions to distant congregations. . . . As the religious persecutions continued, Hillel determined to provide an authorized calendar for all time to come, though by so doing he severed the ties which united the Jews of the Diaspora to their mother country and to the patriarchate. (I. Singer and S. Mendelsohn, "Hillel II," www.JewishEncyclopedia.com.)

The months of the year were lunar, and began with the new moon (hodesh, which came to mean "month.") During the era of the Kings the new moon was observed by a two-day festival (I Sam. 20:24-47.) (The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, "Calendar," p. 631.)

In the fourth century, Hillel II established a fixed calendar based on mathematical and astronomical calculations. This calendar, still in use, standardized the length of months and the addition of months over the course of a 19 year cycle, so that the lunar calendar realigns with the solar years. (Judaism 101, "Jewish Calendar," www.jewfaq.org.)

Since Biblical times the months and years of the Jewish calendar have been established by the cycles of the moon and the sun. The traditional law prescribes that the months shall follow closely the course of the moon . . . In the early times of our history the solution was found by the following practical procedure: The beginnings of the months were determined by direct observation of the new moon.

. . . This method of observation and intercalation was in use throughout the period of the second temple (516 B.C.E. – 70 C.E.), and about three centuries after its destruction, as long as there was an independent Sanhedrin. In the fourth century, however, when oppression and persecution threatened the continued existence of the Sanhedrin, the patriarch Hillel II took an extraordinary step to preserve the unity of Israel . . . he made public the system of calendar calculation which up to then had been a closely guarded secret. It had been used in the past only to check the observations and testimonies of witnesses, and to determine the beginnings of the spring season.

In accordance with this system, Hillel II formally sanctified all months in advance, and intercalated all future leap years until such time as a new, recognized Sanhedrin would be established in Israel. This is the permanent calendar according to which the New Moons and Festivals are calculated and celebrated today by the Jews all over the world. Like the former system of observation, it is based on the Luni-Solar principle. (Arthur Spier, The Comprehensive Hebrew Calendar, excerpted at www.jewishcalendar.com.)

It [the Sabbath] was probably originally connected in some manner with the cult of the moon, as indeed is suggested by the frequent mention of Sabbath and New-Moon festivals in the same sentence (Isa. i. 13; Amos viii. 5; H Kings iv. 23) . . . The Sabbath depending, in Israel's nomadic period, upon the observation of the phases of the moon, it could not, according to this view, be a fixed day . . . . (www.jewishencyclopedia.com, "Sabbath.")

The week of seven days was connected with the lunar month, of which it is, approximately, a fourth. The quadripartite division of the month was evidently in use among the Hebrews and other ancient peoples; but it is not clear whether it originated among the former. It is unnecessary to assume, however, that it was derived from the Babylonians, for it is equally possible that observations of the four phases of the moon led the Hebrew nomads spontaneously and independently to devise the system of dividing the interval between the successive new moons into four groups of seven days each. There is ground, on the other hand, for the assumption that both among the Babylonians and among the Hebrews the first day of the first week of the month was always reckoned as coincident with the first day of the month." (www.jewishencyclopedia.com, "Week.")

When the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, archaeologists found several manuscripts which dated, approximately, from the 1st century B.C. What made these particular documents so unusual, however, is that they were for the express purpose of synchronizing the lunar calendar to a longer solar calendar. Archeologists found that two of these scrolls (4Q320 and 4Q321) recorded the beginnings of the solar months and the festivals. A third manuscript, 4Q321a, might also have given this information, but because part of the text had disintegrated over time, it is impossible to know for sure.

The descendants of Aaron were divided into 24 courses for service. The names of these courses are given in I Chron. 24:7-18. All three texts give the priestly rotation for temple service at the time covered. The following quotes show how luni-solar dates correspond to dates on the solar calendar. It is important to note that at this time, the Jews were under the dominion of the Romans and the solar year to which they were comparing the luni-solar dates was likely the Julian calendar or its immediate predecessor.

The following quotations are taken from The Dead Sea Scrolls, translated by Michael Wise, Martin Abegg, Jr., and Edward Cook:

4Q320 Mishmerot A (fragment 1, column 1):

Line 6: [On the fifth day of Jeda]iah is the twenty-ninth day (of the lunar month), on the thirtieth day of the (first solar) month.

Line 12: [On the Sabbath of the course of Seori]m is the twenty-ninth day (of the lunar month), on the twenty-fifth day of the seventh (solar month).

4Q321 Mishmerot Ba (fragment 1, column 1):

Lines 4 and 5: . . . and the first crescent [of the moon] is on the sabbath of the course of Pethahiah, on the ninth of the [solar] month. 4Q321a Mishmerot Bb: This fragment regulates the lunar calendar to the solar for the first year, months two through five.

Line 4: [(The full moon is on the) Sabbath of the course of Koz, on the thirtieth day of the second (solar) month, and the first crescent is on the first day of Malchijah, on the seventeenth] of the month.

Line 5: [(The full moon is) on the first day of Eliashib, on the twenty-ninth day of the third (solar) month, and the first crescent] is on the second day of Jeshua, on the [sixteenth] of the month.

Over time, the observance of the New Moon as a day of consecration dwindled in importance.

In the Diaspora the New Moon came to occupy a secondary position in contrast to the Sabbath; the prohibition against work and the carrying on of commerce was lifted, and the New Moon, although still celebrated by means of increased offerings, soon was reduced to the rank of a minor of half holiday. Its importance was confined to the fact that it remained of great value and necessity for the fixing of the festivals. (Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, "New Moon," Vol. 8, p. 171.

The belief, that the week has come down uninterrupted since Creation, is not an assumption shared by modern Jewish scholars who know their history.

A continuous seven-day cycle that runs throughout history paying no attention whatsoever to the moon and its phases is a distinctly Jewish invention. Moreover, the dissociation of the seven-day week from nature has been one of the most significant contributions of Judaism to civilization. Like the invention of the mechanical clock some 1,500 years later, it facilitates the establishment of what Lewis Mumford identified as "mechanical periodicity," thus essentially increasing the distance between human beings and nature. Quasi [lunar] weeks and [continuous] weeks actually represent two fundamentally distinct modes of temporal organization of human life, the former involving partial adaptation to nature, and the latter stressing total emancipation from it. The invention of the continuous week was therefore one of the most significant breakthroughs in human beings’ attempts to break away from being prisoners of nature [and from under God's law] and create a social world of their own. (Eviator Zerubavel, The Seven Day Circle: the History and Meaning of the Week, The Free Press, New York, 1985, p. 11.)

One "proof" given to support belief in a Saturday Sabbath is the fact that the word for the seventh day of the week in many languages is, or bears a resemblance to, the word "Sabbath." This, too, is explained by Zerubavel:

The Jewish and astrological weeks evolved quite independently of one another. However, given the coincidence of their identical length, it was only a matter of time before some permanent correspondence between particular Jewish days and particular planetary days would be made. A permanent correspondence between the Sabbath and "the day of Saturn" was thus established . . . [some time] later than the first century of the present era, Jews even came to name the planet Saturn Shabtai, after the original Hebrew name of the Sabbath, Shabbath. Moreover, as they came into closer contact with Hellenism, their conception of their holy day was evidently affected by the astrological conception of Saturn as a planet that has an overwhelming negative influence (a conception which, incidentally, is still evident even from the association of the English word "saturnine" with a gloomy disposition.) There are traditional Jewish superstitious beliefs about demons and evil spirits that hold full sway on the Sabbath, and an old Jewish legend even links the choice of "the day of Saturn" as the official Jewish rest day with the superstition that it would be an inauspicious day for doing any work anyway! (Ibid., p. 17.)

Zerubavel clearly understands the origins of the ancient Hebrew calendar, as well as the connection to the Creator:

The dissociation of the week from a natural cycle such as the waxing and waning of the moon can be seen as part of a general movement toward introducing a supranatural deity. Not being personified as any particular natural force, the Jewish god was to be regarded as untouched by nature in any way. Accordingly, the day dedicated to this god was to be regarded as part of a divine temporal pattern that transcends even nature itself. That obviously involved dissociating the week from nature and its rhythms. Only by being based on an entirely artificial mathematical rhythm could the Sabbath observance become totally independent of the lunar or any other natural cycle. (Ibid., p. 11.)

The significance of a Creator God who stands separate and above the planetary calendar He has created, was a concept used by Abraham the patriarch when attempting to witness to the Chaldeans in Ur. According to Josephus (c.a., A. D. 37 – A. D. 101), a Chaldean historian, Berosus, mentions Abraham as having great knowledge of astronomy: "In the tenth generation after the Flood, there was among the Chaldeans a man [Abram] righteous and great, and skilful in the celestial science" (as quoted by Josephus in Antiquities of the Jews.)

Unfortunately, the Chaldeans had already apostatized from the worship of the Creator God, Yahuwah. In turning from their Creator to the creation, the city of Ur had for its patron god, the moon god, Sin. Josephus states:

He [Abram] was a person of great sagacity [wisdom], both for understanding all things and persuading his hearers, and not mistaken in his opinions; for which reason he began to have higher notions of virtue than others had, and he determined to renew and to change the opinions all men happened then to have concerning God; for he was the first that ventured to publish this notion, that there was but one God, the Creator of the universe; and that, as to other [gods], if they contributed anything to the happiness of men, that each of them afforded it only according to his appointment, and not by their own power. (Antiquities of the Jews, Book I, chapter VII, verse 1.)

The very fact that both the solar and lunar years are differing lengths requiring intercalation (adding extra days or months, respectively, during "leap" years) was used by Abraham to prove that nature itself was not god, but that the was a Being superior to nature that was its Creator:

This his opinion was derived from the irregular phenomena that were visible both at land and sea, as well as those that happen to the sun and moon, and all the heavenly bodies, thus:– "If [said he] these bodies had power of their own, they would certainly take care of their own regular motions; but since they do not preserve such regularity, they made it plain, that in so far as they co-operate to our advantage, they do it not of their own abilities, but as they are subservient to Him that commands them; to whom alone we ought justly to offer our honour and thanksgiving." (Ibid.)

It was this very teaching which according to Josephus, was a contributing factor in Abraham’s decision to leave Ur: "For which doctrines, when the Chaldeans and other people of Mesopotamia raised a tumult against him, he thought fit to leave that country; and at the command, and by the assistance of God, he came and lived in the land of Canaan." (Ibid.)

The belief that Saturday must be the Sabbath of the Bible (because the Jews worship on that day) is an assumption that all Christians have made. However, in light of the fact that the Jews themselves admit that their modern calendar is not the same as that used before the 4th century C.E., Bible scholars and all who love the Sabbath would do well to reexamine this long-held belief. If it is important to worship on a precise, specific day, than the calendar by which you calculate that day must also be the correct calendar. The luni-solar calendar is the only calendar which has roots in the Bible. It was established by Yahuwah at Creation. All other calendars have roots in paganism. To truly keep the fourth commandment, the Sabbath should be calculated by the Creator’s calendar: the moon.

And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign: It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being full. The month derives its name from hers. She waxes wonderfully in her phases, banner of the hosts on high, shining in the vault of heaven." (Ecclesiasticus 43:6-8, c.a. 190-180 B.C.)

If the bible does not say it with implicit force it means nothing. The Sabbath is not prophecy so there is nothing shadowy about it. Why do you insist that God is so incompetent that he can't get the course of the moon right? It would have been perfect if the moon fit into 28 days but it does not. God is not the author of confusion, Satan is. Also lunar Sabbath people always want to use Jericho to prove the lunar Sabbath, but here is the kicker. We believe that the Sabbath is a continuing 7 day count, lunar Sabbath people do not. They say that the bible does not say that the Sabbath is uninterrupted. Well if we use that logic, neither was the march around Jericho uninterrupted and the Sabbath could have easily interrupted the march.

Ezra you say :

If the bible does not say it with implicit force it means nothing.

Prove that saturday has never been lost since creation; prove which calendar the continuous weekly cycle was pinpointed on at creation 6000 years ago. prove from scripture, the truth of this belief. CLUE: Genesis proves the 7th day sabbath given at creation; it does not prove HOW IT WAS DETERMINED. The HOW is the question.

The Lunar calendar is acknowledged by our church for all the feast days. There are many text to point to.  ie 7th month 10th day. Show to me Saturday and the continues cycle.

Ellen G White said that the Sabbath has never been lost. That is good enough for me. I believe that she was a prophet of God and He showed her the Sabbath. There is no argument that the feast were found on the lunar calander; however, that is not the case with the Sabbath. The Sabbath was created before sin entered this world. The feasts only entered after sin. That is why they are not determined the same way. Do you believe that Ellen White was a false prophet?

Lacking from all your proof are instructions from God on calculating the Sabbath in this way. SOmething so important that concerns all people every to live would not be left so silent by God.

Eze 46 is used alot to show that the Sabbath and new moon are linked  becuse the gates could only be openned on those days, however they never mention verse 12 where it says; "Now when the prince shall prepare a voluntary burnt offering or peace offerings unto the Lord, one shall then open him the gate that looketh toward the east, and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he did on the Sabbath day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth on shall shut the gate". Hmm, it seems that the gate could be open on other days as well, even the 6 workig days.

The wave sheaf also disproves the lunar sabbath. In Joshua 5 we read how the children of Israel camped in gilgal and kept the passover on the 14th day of the month at evening. It then says that they ate of the old corn (produce) of the land on the morrow after the passover. You believe that means the 16 am I right? however in order to believe that you have to believe that God is a lier. Why do I say that? Read numbers 33:3; And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians. Do you see it? The morrow after the passover is the 15th day not the 16th day. That means the sabbath referred to in lev 23:11 occured on the 14th day that year in order for them to have eaten the harvest of the land, and the 15th was the day after the sabbath. Deny it all you want but the bible is clear on it.

There really is no need to say more is there? Do you disbelieve God and Ellen White? You may want to look up Johnathan David Brown, the man responsible for starting this whole lunar sabbath idea. He is a white supremacist who served time in federal prison for being an accessory to a hate crime.

Ezra

No solar only calendar existed in Genesis 1 and 7, Leviticus 23 and Numbers 28, 29. Sabbath has never been lost but it has been forgotten according to Lamentations 2:6. The Creation calendar is found in the sanctuary!

  • The feasts were not after sin:  the feasts are as eternal as the sanctuary: if they are after sin -- why will we keep new moon, tabernacles after the earth is made new, which are part of Numbers 28, 29 and includes the 7th day Sabbath? See Isaiah 66:23 and Zechariah 14:16, 18, 19. Was not Moses given the pattern on the Mount of the Heavenly Sanctuary and build it according to that pattern? This included not only the structure but also the whole functioning of the sanctuary. The pattern includes its calendar based on a luni-solar barley harvest reckoning. The sanctuary and the plan of salvation were not an afterthought in the mind of the Creator. It existed before the foundation of the world. It is where He dwells, sitting on His throne where the ark of the Covenant is. See Exodus 25:40; Hebrews 8:5.
Regarding Ezekiel 46, how can the Sabbath and the days of the week be calculated by 2 different calendars and make sense to any of the Isrealites? The Biblical calendar does not change. I insist: it is the calendar of the sanctuary!  From Genesis to Revelation, the Feasts are shown in the sanctuary: From the 7 day week of Genesis 1 and 2 to the monthly calendar of Genesis 7, 8 to Exodus 9, 12,  the appointed times calendar of Leviticus 23 and Numbers 28 and 29 as defined and fulfilled in Christ in its complete cycle with His death at Passover, His rest on Creation Sabbath, His Resurrection on the first day of the Week, the Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Christ entry in the Holy Place at His ascension (4 Gospels, the book of Acts, Revelation 1:13) and His entry in the Most Holy Place on October 22, 1844 (which can only be calculated based on the luni-solar barley harvest calendar) and Second Coming in Daniel 7:9-14; 8:14, 9:24-27; Revelation 11:19 and 22:20.

It is true that Numbers 33:3 seems to indicate that the children of Israel came out of Egypt on the 15th (the night between the 14th and the 15th) but it is not correctDeuteronomy 16:1 makes it clear that the children of Israel came out at night: in Exodus 12:22 the Lord forbade them to come out of their house until the morning... this they obeyed. The morning was the feast of Unleavened Bread, Abib 15 than in the evening, which was the 15th - 16th at the feast of firstfruits, they came out 'by night. These are a lot of details but the Bible must be studied that way: principles upon principles, line upon line - so, it is true that the morrow after the Passover is Unleavened Bread, the 15th, but they came out the night of the 15th which was the first day of the week. However, at Gilgal, they ate the old corn on the 15th at Unleavened Bread.

I do not know about Jonathan Brown, but I can show from the writing of Sister White that she was not shown the Saturday 7th day. She was shown the 7th day after Bates received from Mrs Oakes the Saturday 7th day. The angel in 1 Selected Messages page 116 told her to study the word 'even' and then she would understand. Because for 10 years, the pioneers had kept the 7th day from 6pm to 6pm. It is after this episode that they started keeping from sunset to sunset. She was shown their mistake of the hour of keeping the Sabbath. But she was not confirmed that Saturday was  the right day. And people use that to prove that she was confirmed. As for Jonathan Brown, who ever he is, and where he got his research from, he published a book in 1998. He may claim to be the first Lunar Sabbath keeper of the 20th century, but that remains to be proven.

After many centuries of lies and strife among the Rabbinical Jews and the Karaites. After the disappointment, most of the original pioneers of the Movement died or gave up their belief on the date of October 22, 1844 including Snow and Miller. The remnant was composed of young people in their early 20's of which E.G. White and brother White were part of. We are told that more truth would be presented which does not remove the pillars of our faith. The Adventist movement was never based on the Saturday Sabbath. It was based on the SANCTUARY and the MOST HOLY PLACE where the Law is kept, along with the statutes and the judgments. The 7th day Sabbath and the feasts are statutes as indicated 4 times in Leviticus 23. They are not shadowy precepts to be nailed to the cross, they are binding forever unto eternity. On the earth made new, we will keep with all the unfallen universe, the new moon, the Sabbath and the Feast of Tabernacles.

Question: Which calendar will it be based on? Will it be from the pure original Luni-Solar Barley Harvest Calendation reckoning for new moon and the feasts as restored by the Millerites in 1844, or a blend of Pagan, Papal Gregorian calendar for the 7th day Sabbath as some observed today including the Rabbinical Jews? We must be consistent! Either it is the Creation calendar as reflected in the sanctuary which is a pattern of the true or it is a confused calendar as most of the world observes today.

You don't need a calendar, any calendar, to "calculate" when the seventh-day Sabbath is.

There is a very simple mathmatical formula to follow:

The days in Hebrew, as in Arabic, are numbered. The first day is called "Day One", the second is called "Day Two", etc., until you get to the sixth day, the first day with a name: "Preparation Day". It was the only day that had that name and was so called because it was the day of preparing for the weekly Sabbath. (Just so that there is no confusion, annual sabbaths did not have preparation days.)

The next day following the sixth day is, the seventh day - Sabbath. In Arabic the word for seven is "saba'a" which makes it even easier to know which day is the Sabbath Day.

You can overlay any calendar you like and it will make no difference to the order of the days. You can change calendars as much as you like - it makes no difference to the order of the days.

Whilst the calendar is useful for determining when the Passover was in 31 ad - and which day of the week it fell on - beyond that there is nothing else to be gained from studying the so-called "Luni-Solar-Barley" calendar. It is just another distraction from spreading the Gospel to those who have not heard it, and is preying on those in the church who have a leaning towards spiritual elitism and righteousness by works. That's all it is - another version of righteousness by works, a nonesense for gullible people.

Bill,

you said The feasts were not after sin:  the feasts are as eternal as the sanctuary:

Me: The sanctuary is not eternal. The throne of God is but the sanctuary is not Gods eternal throne. The sanctuary was set up when sin entered and it will close when sin is destroyed. Daniel 7:9-10 talk about the sanctuary throne and its connection with the judgemenet. There are two thrones spoken of in both daniel and revelation, one is His eternal throne and the other is the sanctuary throne. This is not some new thing that I have come up with, this was taught by out pioneers in the 1800s. In fact, I have been reading DAniel and the revelation by Uriah Smith and he says the same thing. Ellen White said that this book was a blessing and she was eager that as many people as posible should read it. God would not inspire her to say that if the book was in error.

You said;

However, at Gilgal, they ate the old corn on the 15th at Unleavened Bread.

Me; that is not correct either. If you know anything about the biblical day you would know that it starts in the evening. Therefore if the bible says that they came out on the 15th it was on the 15th and not the 16th. If evening had come it would have become the 16th day. You are mixing our current reckoning and the reckoning that was used in the bible. The day did not start in teh morning like it does not, it started at evening.

You said;  do not know about Jonathan Brown, but I can show from the writing of Sister White that she was not shown the Saturday 7th day.

Me; I can show from her writtings that she always called Friday the preperation day.

I am leaving one job and heading to the next so I will have to reply to this later. Have a good day.

Joshua and Jericho: The Math Problem of the missing Sabbath

There appears to be a math problem affecting the 7th day Sabbath in the account of Joshua and the march around Jericho for 7 days. The Israelites were commanded to march around Jericho once a day for 6 days. Then they were commanded to march around Jericho 7 times on the 7th day. This means that they marched around Jericho 7 days in a row. Regardless of the order of the days, one of these days should have been a Sabbath, according to the calendar reckoning we use today with a "continuous weekly cycle." So here are the questions that arise out of this scenario.

  •

  • Yahweh had just given Jericho into the hands of the Joshua and the Israelites. Scripture indicates it was probably Christ himself that was there with Joshua.
  •

  •

  • The Israelites had just emerged from 40 years in the wilderness keeping the Sabbath.
  •

  •

  • Would Yahweh have given Jericho into the hands of the Israelites if they were not obedient to His commandments and law?
  •

  •

  • Did Joshua and the children of Israel march around Jericho on a Sabbath?
  •

  •

  • If they marched around Jericho 7 days, why is there no mention of a Sabbath?
  •

  •

  • Why did Ellen White not catch this "math" problem?
  •

First Month; Abib; Passover

The references in Joshua 5 point out that the Israelites were camped near Jericho in the first month, where they observed the Passover.

Jos 5:10

And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

Jos 5:11

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

Jos 5:12

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

Second Month

The verses from Jasher points out that the assault on Jericho began in the second month on the first day of the month. (The book of Jasher is referred to in the book of Joshua, and in the book of 2nd Samuel)

Jasher 88:14

And it was in the second monthon the first day of the month, that the Lord said to Joshua, Rise up, behold I have given Jericho into thy hand with all the people thereof; and all your fighting men shall go round the city, once each day, thus shall you do for six days.

Jasher 88:17

And on the seventh day they went round the city seven times, and the priests blew upon trumpets.

The verses in Joshua 6 point out the instructions to march around Jericho, which is spanned over a 7 day consecutive period.

Jos 6:2

And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

Jos 6:3

And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

Jos 6:4

And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.

Jos 6:14

And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

Jos 6:15

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.

Once again Bill, I think that it is interesting that you will say that we are being presumptuous believing that the sabbath is every 7 days uninterrupted and at the same time you believe that the march around Jericho was uninterrupted. I will not even consider anything from the book of jasher because it is not biblical, I have read some of it and any book that mentions speaking with the dead is straight from Satan. Here is the part that I am speaking of;

36 And Joseph continued to speak these words, and Joseph cried aloud and wept bitterly upon his mother's grave; and he ceased speaking, and from bitterness of heart he became still as a stone upon the grave. 37 And Joseph heard a voice speaking to him from beneath the ground, which answered him with bitterness of heart, and with a voice of weeping and praying in these words: 38 My son, my son Joseph, I have heard the voice of thy weeping and the voice of thy lamentation; I have seen thy tears; I know thy troubles, my son, and it grieves me for thy sake, and abundant grief is added to my grief. 39 Now therefore my son, Joseph my son, hope to the Lord, and wait for him and do not fear, for the Lord is with thee, he will deliver thee from all trouble.

Do you really feel safe using this book as scripture? I don't! As far as Joshua is concerned I have already shown you that the Sabbath was on the 14th day that year. Here is one of my posts from a previous page.

"The wave sheaf also disproves the lunar sabbath. That means the sabbath referred to in lev 23:11 occurred on the 14th day that year in order for them to have eaten the harvest of the land, and the 15th was the day after the sabbath. Deny it all you want but the bible is clear on it."

It is a fact that the bible says that they ate of the old corn or the harvest of the land on the morrow after the passover and it is also a fact that the bible calls the 15th day the morrow after the passover. Therefore it is only possible for the 14th to have been the Sabbath that year because they HAD to offer the wave sheaf on the morrow after the Sabbath. Hopefully this will give you the proof that you have been looking for in order to return to keeping the Sabbath.

Ezra

much thinking has you much confused--it is actually very simple to the people of the Creator God.

note: the 1st sabbath, the 7th day of creation week, came after a new moon-because the moon was made that week,o.k.

now that same moon is older, however, going back to the commandment (4th) found in Exodus 20:8-11

do you read "7th day" ? answer is YES

do you read after "new moon" ?   answer is NO.

please be aware of the fate of those that " add" to God's word---plagues for them...

so, don't add to God's word just trust and obey and have faith in Jesus, everything will be clearly understood if you do this, remember, GOD is not the author of confusion

Satan is the author of this confusion as he is the author of 1st day sabbath confusion--you aren't confused about that so don't let him confuse about the moon, ok

Praise God!!!our Creator and Redeemer, who leads us into ALL truth--may God continue to bless His Church and may many be added daily is my prayer, in Jesus' name I pray.

Very good answer, Bill L.  God's Word is simple enough for a child to understand.  Jesus warned that unless we become as little children we will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Bill D, all this research mostly into human history and calendation has led you to misinterpret the Scriptures.  Nowhere in Scripture are we commanded to keep a lunar sabbath. Your lunar sabbaths are as pagan as it gets. It is precisely because God knew pagan civilizations would pervert His Sabbath that He made the Sabbath independent of any celestial body; "lest thou lift up thine eyes to heaven and when thou seest the sun moon and the stars thou shouldest worship them..." Deut. 4:19

Keeping the Babylonian evil days, as lunar sabbatarians do, comes from the pagan worship of "Sin" the moon goddess, which today is Mary Queen of Heaven and Mother of the World.... MARY WORSHIP.  Anti-Scriptural and Pagan.

Hello:

thanks for the kind words Michelle,

If I may add this...

The sabbath was made for man-beginning with Adam, and He passed it on to his children and so it went.....This was waaay before Abraham and his decendents received news from God about a sanctuary or feast days...or did I miss something???

Where are all the Judaizers coming from?? I know quite a few and they don't care or even want to know about prophecy in Daniel and Revelation and other books--kind of like the Jews around the time of Jesus, who missed His 1st coming..Could history be repeating itself?

Please don't try to keep laws and ordinances that boil down to works--they didn't work B.C. , but, they did and do serve a purpose...only it's not the perfecting of the saints,

today, that is accomplished by looking into the Law of Liberty--there you will find a law to hide in your heart, a law that Jesus can use to change you into His image, if only you will allow Him to...don't sow to the flesh, but rather, sow to the spirit and you will reap eternal life----please pray about this and don't be mislead,

there is too much at stake here, Humble yourself before a loving God and He will take you with Him to heaven....

If you can get a copy of The 10 Commandments Twice Removed  or   The Anti-Christ Agenda (same book) please read it--and be blessed--Bill
