Judge jails Kentucky clerk for refusing marriage licenses. Two police get shot in the back of the head but this is the headliner.

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — A federal judge ordered a defiant county clerk to jail for contempt Thursday after she insisted that it would violate her conscience to follow court orders to issue marriage licenses to gay couples.

Rowan County clerk Kim Davis and her deputy clerks were summoned to appear before U.S. District Judge David Bunning after she repeatedly denied them marriage licenses, cited her religious beliefs and "God's authority."

"You can't be separated from something that's in your heart and in your soul," Davis told the judge as she explained how the Supreme Court's ruling legalizing gay marriage nationwide conflicts with the vows she made when she became a born-again Christian.

"I promised to love Him with all my heart, mind and soul because I wanted to make heaven my home," Davis said.

The judge said she left him with no alternative but to jail her, since fines alone would not serve to change her mind. She was escorted out of his courtroom by a deputy, although not in handcuffs, to be turned over to the custody of federal marshals.

The judge also told all five of her deputy clerks that they are free to issue licenses to all applicants, and also face fines or jail if they refuse to comply. He gave them a chance to meet with lawyers before returning to his courtroom to reveal their decisions.

The lawyer for Davis, whose defense is funded by the Liberty Counsel, a religious freedom group, argued that the deputy clerks can only issue licenses under Davis' authority, but the judge overrulled this objection.

Hundreds of people chanted and screamed, "Love won! Love won!" as word of these decisions reached the crowds outside the federal courthouse.

Kim Davis testified about 20 minutes and was very emotional. She described how she became a Christian and said she is unable to believe anything else.

April Miller, one of the women trying to obtain a license, also testified. She said she voted for Kim Davis in the election and that this was only about getting her license, not about trying to change Davis' beliefs.

In front of the federal courthouse, demonstrators shouted at each other, sang hymns and waved signs, which ranged from the violent — turn to Jesus or burn — to simple statements of support. A small plane flew over the courthouse, carrying a banner that said: "Stand Firm Kim."

Davis stopped issuing licenses to all couples in June after the U.S. Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage. Despite rulings against her, she's turned away couples again and again.

The couples who originally sued in the case asked Bunning to punish Davis with fines but not jail time.

Davis, an Apostolic Christian, said earlier this week she never imagined this day would come.

"I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue. It is about marriage and God's word," her statement said.

Her critics mock this moral stand, noting that Davis is on her fourth husband after being divorced three times.

Davis served as her mother's deputy in the clerk's office for 27 years before she was elected as a Democrat to succeed her mother in November. Davis' own son is on the staff.

As an elected official, she can be removed only if the Legislature impeaches her, which is unlikely in a deeply conservative state.

Judge Bunning is the son of Jim Bunning, the Hall of Fame pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies who served two terms as Kentucky's junior U.S. Senator. Former Republican President George W. Bush nominated David Bunning for a lifetime position as a federal judge in 2001 when he was just 35 years old, halfway through his dad's first term in the Senate.

But Bunning has been anything but a sure thing for conservative causes. In 2007, he was part of a three-judge panel on a federal appeals court that overturned Michigan's ban on partial-birth abortion. The panel ruled the state's law was too broad and would outlaw other legal forms of abortion.

In 2003, Bunning ordered the Boyd County School District to allow the student club Gay-Straight Alliance to meet on campus.

Hello Brother Raymond,

I believe this is one of the most significant events ever to happen in the United States of America. Today, 9/3/15, marks the day when Christianity is officially outlawed and this country has fully turned its back on the Christian valued upon which it was founded- being set up as a place of refuge to provide religious freedom for groups such as the Puritans who were facing religious persecution.

Sister White said "national apostasy will be followed by national ruin."  I believe we are seeing that national apostasy in the form of strikes against the twin institutions which God set up in the garden of Eden - marriage (gay marriage issue) and the Sabbath (Sunday laws and legislated religion soon to come).

I agree. Ben Carson spoke at a church and said National Sunday Law will come from the right, which is interesting seeing how he is running as a republican.  Will it be a pendulum swing to the right? I guess I am not so certain if it will just be a swing to the right to restore values. Europe and Germany are very liberal and secular and they have blue laws. Europeans have little or no faith in God and they believe the state rather than God holds the answers.

Wow that is eye opening Raymond one begin to see how the endtime sunday laws will be enforced.

All men have been bought with this infinite price. By pouring the whole treasury of heaven into this world, by giving us in Christ all heaven, God has purchased the will, the affections, the mind, the soul, of every human being. Whether believers or unbelievers, all men are the Lord’s property. All are called to do service for Him, and for the manner in which they have met this claim, all will be required to render an account at the great judgment day.{COL 326.1}

But the claims of God are not recognized by all. It is those who profess to have accepted Christ’s service who in the parable are represented as His own servants.{COL 326.2}

 “Watch ye therefore: ... lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping.” Mark 13:35, 36. Perilous is the condition of those who, growing weary of their watch, turn to the attractions of the world. While the man of business is absorbed in the pursuit of gain, while the pleasure lover is seeking indulgence, while the daughter of fashion is arranging her adornments—it may be in that hour the Judge of all the earth will pronounce the sentence: “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” Daniel 5:27.{GC 491.2}

I can say that this is a good news for people living in a country like Madagascar where gay marriage is still forbidden. Kim is a courageous woman.

Sunday laws are coming, but I don't see any link to this.  Sunday laws will come from a 3 way alliance of Catholics, Spiritualists and Protestants.  Catholics and a lot of Protestants oppose gay marriage, they are not behind this.

And this lady is not being forced into a gay marriage or being forced to approve of a church marriage, or even being forced to stay on her job.  Signing a license for a government marriage has nothing to do with a church marriage and is not comparable to being forced to worship on Sunday.

Yes there will be Coalition indeed but you are seeing it with a narrow perspective I think. In the end there will only be a coalition with the Pope as the head no other leader. Even the ten Kings gives their power to the Pope.

Yes the lady is forced to sign the Gay marriage licence against her understanding of what God says about such a union. If you can not see anything sinister about this I guess you need Glasses.

This lady is not being force to sign anything; she’s the county clerk, it’s her responsibility as a government official to perform these duties.  I agree with Shannon, she should just resign if she doesn’t believe she can fulfill her duties.

Explain how then Germany and other European nations who are secular, progressive and statist have blue laws.

The Sunday laws will hit the USA first according to Ellen White, then the international Sunday Laws will occur.  The current European laws are not the ones Ellen White are refering too since they are out of sequence.

That is true, but that is not what I was referring to. Being a liberal,progressive in no way hinders the devil from doing what he does.  The good intentions of the left are no substitute for obeying what God calls each individual to do.

Raymond, blue laws are rooted in the history of Europe going as far back as Constantine, and the Holy Roman Empire.

The Holy Roman Empire was Germanic; it is often said there was nothing neither holy nor roman about it.  Germany undoubtedly is presently the leading power among those European states; the European Union.  As these nations morph into what the bible say they will become the beast and ten kings they will once again embrace these historical roots, and will be guided once again to do so by the Church.

Consider the Weimar Constitution. On August 11, 1919, Friedrich Ebert, a member of the Social Democratic Party and the provisional president of the German Reichstag (government), signs a new constitution, known as the Weimar Constitution, into law, officially creating the first parliamentary democracy in Germany.

Read the Articles relating to Religion and Religious Communities, Article 139 in particular.

Sunday and other state holidays are designated as days of rest from work and spiritual collection and are, as such, protected by law.

This is the same thing Constantine said…

"On the Venerable Day of the Sun ["venerabili die Solis"--the sacred day of the Sun] let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed. In the country, however, persons engaged in agriculture may freely and lawfully continue their pursuits; because it often happens that another day is not so suitable for grain-sowing or for vine-planting; lest by neglecting the proper moment for such operations the bounty of heaven should be lost--Given the 7th day of March, [A.D. 321], Crispus and Constantine being consuls each of them for the second time." The First Sunday Law of Constantine 1, in "Codex Justinianus," lib. 3, tit. 12, 3; trans. in Phillip Schaff "History of the Christian Church," Vol. 3, p. 380.

Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday [in the original: "sabbato" shall not be idle on the Sabbath], but shall work on that day; but the Lord's day they shall especially honour, and as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut out ["anathema,"--excommunicated] from Christ." Council of Laodicea, c. A.D. 337, Canon 29, quoted in C.J. Hefele, "A History of the Councils of the Church," Vol. 2, p. 316.

...But you know all of this, I’m sure.

Of course the Bishops of Roman has always approved of this, just as they do now. The popes have always advocate, and endorsed those who sought the revival of Europe and Sunday keeping. In a 2007 Mass, the pope says Sunday Mass Is a Necessity, he goes on the say, "Without Sunday we cannot live."

In a 2009 article entitled, The Battle for Sunday, the author notes:

The Roman Catholic Church has been fighting to make Sunday observance mandatory in Europe for the past 15 years. Its efforts have not yet succeeded in having a Sunday rest enshrined in European Union law—though at times it has come close…The principle of Sunday rest is already codified in EU law for all employees under 18, within the 1994 Protection of Young People at Work Directive. It would be just one more step for the EU to impose it on the whole workforce.

Of course, behind the latest Sunday amendment proposals is the Catholic Church. The Brussels-based Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (comece), a group of Catholic bishops, has been leading the charge. In a November statement calling for the European Parliament to enforce Sunday, comece said: “If the European Parliament is taking seriously the point clearly outlined in the directive, it would be logical that it completed the present text with a disposition on Sunday as a day of weekly rest.” The protection of Sunday, said comece Secretary General Piotr Mazurkiewicz, “is a cornerstone of the European social model and an issue of central importance for workers and their families” (, Nov. 10, 2008). comece representatives have also met with a number of politicians to push their cause.

The Roman Catholic Church historically has approved of every European effort that has purpose the revival of the Roman Empire, or the United State of Europe from Justinian, Charlemagne Napoleon, and even Hitler and Mussolini. Based on these facts, it will also endorse the next European power too.

I am quite aware of this Gene.  I also know how secular Europe is.  It would seem that secular humanist would reject this, but they do not. The current pope is a rock star with secular people, especially the left.  Right after the French Revolution the 7 day week was done away with for a 10 day week because of the religious nature of 7 days of creation.  Europeans will rarely riot or protest against anything unjust, but they will riot over vacation time, pay and benefits and football they could care less about the historical aspect of Sunday rest.
