I listened to an Adventist Pastor preached a sermom yesterday. I was really shocked- in his sermon he said that the devil is not responsible for every temptation. He stated that we enter into temptation on our own. Now I cannot accept this because I know satan is responsible for every temptation and even though we are born in sin and shaped in iniquity there is still two forces ruling the universe God and the devil. So, I am interested to hear your views on this.-

While we do not hear the sermon for ourselves to make a proper judgement this may help.

Jas 1:14  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Could you please elaborate a little please??

I really did not want to expose the person so I did not post the sermon nor the preacher.

you not easy girl!!

Our Bodies a Purchased Possession—The lower passions have their seat in the body and work through it. The words “flesh” or “fleshly” or “carnal lusts” embrace the lower, corrupt nature; the flesh of itself cannot act contrary to the will of God. We are commanded to crucify the flesh, with the affections and lusts. How shall we do it? Shall we inflict pain on the body? No; but put to death the temptation to sin. The corrupt thought is to be expelled. Every thought is to be brought into captivity to Jesus Christ. All animal propensities are to be subjected to the higher powers of the soul. The love of God must reign supreme; Christ must occupy an undivided throne. Our bodies are to be regarded as His purchased possession. The members of the body are to become the instruments of righteousness.19{AH 127.2}

Randy Skeete is a solid speaker and very deep.

When in doubt listen again and again and search

and prove if these things are so.

Leslie Ann, it is nice to know that you are a keen

listener. Real investigator.

In this day and age with every wind of doctrine coming your way one have to be a keen listener and to prove all things.

Sometimes we tempt the devil to tempt us. Do you believe we have the freedom to choose? Not because his name is the temptor/satan means he is responsible for us sinning. Because of our sinful nature we are exposed to temptation daily.For example, if you are or was a drunkard and you are clean for about a year and you know drinking is a weak point of yours, would you past by a liquor store, thinking you are stronger now? By you making the decision to walk past that liquor store, you tempt the devil to tempt you. We are also at fault for the temptations as well.We assume sometimes that we are so strong that we fool ourselves and fall prey to the devil.Blessings!!

I strongly disagree with this. The devil is the tempter period. If we tempt anyone then it is the devil working in us to do that. Just like when we do good it is not us but God working in us to will and do of his good pleasure. We by ourself cannot do nothing. whether there is choice or not some spirit have to be moving for you to make that choice. Eve wondered away from Adam she was perfect and without sin would you say she tempt the devil to tempt her because she went to the tree?? and because of this she ate??? no way she wondered away yes but the temptation came with the devil.

Eve had a choice to make.She tempt the devil to tempt her because God told her never to leave her husband's side.From the time she did that the tempter saw his chance.She had the warning from God what and what not to do.She chose to walk away therefore allowing the tempter to come in for the kill.Don't go where God cannot protect us. Don't step on the devil's ground and expect Devine protection.I don't disagree that he is the tempter but that doesn't mean that we don't tempt him to tempt us as well.We like to play with the devil but one thing is certain he ain't playing with any of us.We know the consequences for many of our actions.If you put your hand in the fire you will get burn..common sense but do we adhear to the rules? We always want to find out for ourselves. We chose whether to sin or not to sin.Love is a choice, so is hate a choice.We know because God's word says it now the choice to chose to sin is there.We are not robots so choice is there.You chose to love God right or not?
