Pray That We Will Not Be Like The Jews Who REJECTED/OPPOSES TRUTH

Those who preach unpopular truth in our day are often met by the professed Christian world with opposition similar to that which was brought against the apostle by the unbelieving Jews.Many who make the most exalted profession, and who should be light-bearers to the world, are the most bitter and unreasonable in opposing the work of the chosen servants of God.Not satisfied with choosing error and fables for themselves, they wrest the Scriptures from the true meaning in order to deceive others and hinder them from accepting the truth.

Sadly, we are told that we are followingin the same steps as Ancient Israel.

The Bible Says,

*1 Corinthians 10:11---"Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."

SOP says,

"The trials of the children of Israel, and their attitude just before the first coming of

Christ, illustrate the position of the people of God in their

experience before the second coming of Christ." {Healthful Living, page 280; R&H, 1890, No. 7}

"We are repeating the history of that people." {5T, p. 160}

"The sin of ancient Israel was in disregarding the expressed will of God and following their own way according to the leadings of unsanctified hearts, Modern Israel are fast following in their footsteps, and the displeasure of the Lord is as surely resting upon them." (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, page 94).

"The great sin of ancient Israel was in turning from God to idols, this is also the great sin of Modern Israel." (Review and Herald, June 3, 1880).

"There is a limit beyond which the judgments of Jehovah can no longer be delayed, the desolation of Jerusalem in the days of Jeremiah is a solemn warning to modern Israel, that the counsels and admonitions given them through chosen instrumentalities cannot be disregarded with impunity." (Prophets and Kings, page 417).

"His word will bring as serious consequences upon God's people today as did the same sin upon ancient Israel. There is a limit beyond which He will no longer delay His judgments. The desolation of Jerusalem stands as a solemn warning before the eyes of modern Israel, that the corrections given through His chosen instruments cannot be disregarded with impunity."

{Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, page 167; Review and Herald, June 30, 1885; Signs of the Times, February 12, 1880.]

Yes indeed, Ladyeve, may we pray that we are NOT among that number. The scoffers that were 'promised' in the last days, have come. Many are ever ready to "speak evil of those things which they know not". (Jude 10) "Old bottles" will never be able to receive "new wine"... and rather than risk being broken, many are tempted to sneer at whatever they are not acquainted with.

.

I pray that we will have more nobility than that... even when it is clear that error is being presented to us.

Then what should we do? Follow the example of the Bereans...

Jude 3 tells us what we are to do.

*Jude 3---"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here Dmj and Stewart.

Amen:)
