Is it o.k. to pray facing the east?

Not sure why you think we should pray in any particular direction?

Jesus did not specify any direction as far as I know. The old testament does mention something about this but it seems to be more about Idolatry than praying to God I believe. And The Muslims are the wild card here as they need to pray facing Mecca, as the Jews also had a rule to face Jerusalem.

Daniel prayed facing Jerusalem. However, when you live halfway around the world from Jerusalem, one could face eaither direction since the Earth is round. Or is there another reason you have for wanting to pray toward the East?

He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east. Ezekiel 8:16.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the temple was placed in such a way that the priest's back side would be towards the east when they were serving in the temple.

That said I don't think it is a problem to pray in any direction unless we are purposefully praying to the east.   This issue came up during easter when sunrise services were being held.  It raised a red flag and I studied into it.

I have heard  that it is good to pray toward the east, perhaps due to jerusalem  or sunrise east having something to do with God.  But I have never found that in the bible and it would seem praying to the east would be equivalent to sun worship.  I just wanted to seek clarification on the topic.

Like you I am conflicted.  I like to pray on my knees in private but I pray while working and driving.  While outside working with my hat on I pray silently, but if I can I pray in a more formal fashion on my knees and I do not think about the direction.   You bring up an interesting subject.  I guess it is about showing respect to the Lord.

If you are a member of an Islamic religion.

You didn't mention Ellen White?  Shocking.  :)

Witch direction do Jesuits pray?

That is funny.  I pictured someone in a funny hat with robes.

If you asked 10 Jesuits to define Ignatian spirituality, the first thing out of their mouths would probably be “finding God in all things.”  I guess that means where ever there is a statue or idol.

Like Pastor T says: to Jesus.

Islam has never promoted praying to the east.

Technically they pray towards Mecca which in North America faces East. Muslims elsewhere would pray in other directions based on their geographic location.

If you remember what happened in the temple at the time of Jesus crucifixion you have your answer.
