I was doing a study to write a outline of the foundational pillars of Adventism. Everyone seems to have a personal view of what they entail but limited support for it. What SOP or writings in church periodicals has everyone on this important issue as I have the following pillars.....

The investigative judgment
The sanctuary service
The perpetuity of the Law of God
The faith of Jesus
The Three Angels' Messages
The seventh-day Sabbath
The state of the dead
The special gift of prophecy (or the Testimony of Jesus).

"Just remember one thing: Do not confound "God" with "Christ" and the "Holy Spirit." The Scriptures and Spirit of Prophecy continually distinguish the three

"The three persons are OF the Godhead (Godhood/Divinity). "

"the only reason we do not see it is because it has been drilled into us that God is three persons, not one person or personality"

You said that there are three persons of the godhead but then you said there are not three but one ?

No, I said there are three.

The last statement you quoted of me is referring to who God is, which is plain from John 17:3 and 1 Cor. 8:6. The three persons do not identify who God is but they identify the three powers that are of His Godhead/divinity, including Himself.

M.E wrote: "The three persons do not identify who God is but they identify the three powers that are of His Godhead/divinity, including Himself. "

The Three "powers" of the GODHEAD you mention, do you believe these powers are The Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

EGW wrote: "The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.—Special Testimonies, Series A, No. 10, p.

When SOP says the Holy Spirit is the Thrid person of the GODHEAD, do you disagree with that statement?

If we can show you from SOP that each Person of the Godhead has their own personality, would you then believe in the Trinity?

Do we not trust in our brethren enough to assume that they believe that all of Sister White's statements are inspired unless they say otherwise?

So do you believe that what she said about the Trinity is inspired? Because it appears that you believe something totally different

We do trust in EGW as inspired including her over 400 times mentioning the Godhead, seems to me you do not.

M.E. Malachi wrote: Perhaps it is difficult because there are so many different compilations to sort through.

That is why I have requested references. I prefer not to go to compilations but even a reference to one of those should point to the origin of the quote. Rather than a specific quote you direct to 80 pages of SoP which hardly addresses the topic at all.

M.E. Malachi wrote: 8T 255 to 335 is the place that Sister White directed people to in addition to our pioneers. There are also Review and Herald articles from 1903 to 1906. Also this article: { SpTB02 51.1 } and this reference point:  { MR760 9.5 } .  That paragraph has both "personality of God" and "pillars."

8T 255-355 is almost one third of the entire book and does not address the subject. There is no reference to a pillar concerning the personality of God. You refer to Review & Herald articles over a period of four years yet give no specific reference. What can be seen during this time, however, is the increasing reference not just to the concept of Three Persons of the Godhead but the use of the word "trinity", e.g. Prescott in Review & Herald 3rd March 1903.

SpTB02 does not answer the question but does include this, "We are to hold to the sure pillars of our faith. The principles of truth that God has revealed to us are our only true foundation." This was written in 1904 and the same year Ellen White repeated her statement from The Desire of Ages that, "Sin could be resisted and overcome only through the mighty agency of the third person of the Godhead, who would come with no modified energy, but in the fulness of divine power."

Your next reference comes from the following year, 1905. Here she states that "Those who seek to remove the old landmarks are not holding fast; they are not remembering how they have received and heard. Those who try to bring in theories that would remove the pillars of our faith concerning the sanctuary or concerning the personality of God or of Christ, are working as blind men."

What are the "old landmarks" she is referring to? When it comes to the personality of God or of Christ we have multiple statements in reference to their divinity. If we only go back seven years to The Desire of Ages we have plain statements in regard to the divinity of Christ and in regard to the Holy Spirit being the third person of the Godhead. Was Ellen White condemning her own statements? In the same year we have the 10 Pillars of our faith being printed in Review & Herald, none of which are in relation to the personality of God.

Ellen White refers to "the truths upon which the people of God have stood for the past fifty years" and, by virtue of chronology, this must include the truth of the Holy Spirit being the third Person of the Godhead which had been established over the previous decade and specifically her statement in regard to "the heavenly trio".

M.E. Malachi wrote: Sister White also directs to to the writings of our pioneers. Since it is a pillar, they would have known and taught what it was. Therefore, we should study everything they published on the "personality of God." How did James White and D.M. Canright define this doctrine in their articles titled with that name? Specifically, search for "personality of God" and "Trinity" together in their writings.

Again, where are the specific references? We do not establish our doctrines on the writings of the pioneers but rather on the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy - which both refer to three Persons of the Godhead. Kellogg was one of the pioneers yet Ellen White warns us that, in regard to the personality of God  he was not correct. Why? Because he destroyed the personality of God, by claiming that the Holy Spirit was an all-pervading power rather than a Person.

From the late 19th century into the early 20th century Ellen White made multiple statements in regard to the personhood of all three Persons of the Godhead and the fact that we are baptised in the name of these three Persons.

In 1906 she wrote, "The Holy Spirit has a personality, else He could not bear witness to our spirits and with our spirits that we are the children of God. He must be a divine person, else He could not search out the secrets which lie hidden in the mind of God." (Manuscript 20, 1906)

So… no definition of a pillar that defines the personality of God just references to how Kellogg, by de-personifying the Holy Spirit was bringing in the alpha of heresies. Surely it should be apparent from the multitude of quotes that it was Ellen White who caused a shift in Adventist theology by confirming the truth that God is revealed to us in three Persons, each fully and equally God. If you study what present-day anti-trinitarians are saying it becomes apparent that they are attempting to reduce the Holy Spirit to a power rather than a Person - just as Kellogg was doing. Equally we see Jesus Christ being reduced to a created being, or, as the Jehovah's Witnesses phrase it in their Bible, "a god" rather than "the God". Yet all of this goes against what was revealed to Ellen White.

I advise seeking for oneself rather than relying on websites devoted to making the Spirit of Prophecy of no effect.

(Of course, if you can find a clear statement that shows what the "personality of God" pillar was, that would go to the topic of this thread.)

M.E Malachi

Continue to preach the word brother people need to know that God is not a Trinity. This truth is all over the internet and has been for some time but people not taking the time to be like a berean and search it out and that is so sad because what they do not know is that as long as they believe in the trinity then they automatically is denying that Jesus is the literal son of God which makes one anti Christ and they would not receive the seal of God which is the Father's name written in their forehead.

have you read what Ellen White said about this? The son being God and the HS?

TBH Leslie Ann I think it is because people are being like the Bereans that they are not falling for this stuff on the internet.

If one actually does the personal research, not by looking at YouTube videos or believing everything that every anti-SDA website puts online but by actually reading the writings of the pioneers, the church periodicals and, most especially, Ellen White, one finds that the Godhead doctrine of the SDA Church was mainly influenced by Ellen White's book The Desire of Ages. Now, does that then mean that Ellen White was a Jesuit? Was she a Catholic agent who had crept into the SDA Church in order to pervert the truth and introduce Roman Catholic doctrine? Yet that is what we are constantly told, that it was Jesuits who brought this RC doctrine in.

There are so many divisive groups out there who claim to follow the pioneers but are totally incapable of defining what that means. Most of them seem to reject Spirit of Prophecy when it suits them and rely on the writings of fallible men instead.

They complain about creeds whilst themselves trying to establish a de facto creed by stating that we must return to a fictional "time of the pioneers" when they, apparently, had a perfect understanding of the Gospel - yet no-one is able to state exactly when this time was. More importantly, no-one is able to clearly present what this supposed pillar in regard to the Godhead was. All that is presented is claims of what it was not - and even then articulated in vague terms often unrelated to the SDA belief regarding the Godhead.

The righteousness by faith message brings a deeper understanding of the Godhead and A.T. Jones wrote in 1899,

God is one. Jesus Christ is one. The Holy Spirit is one. And these three are one: there is no dissent nor division among them.”

The trinity doctrine is rejected on the grounds of a false history of the development of the doctrine in the SDA Church. The Spirit of Prophecy is made of no effect, the righteousness by faith message is rejected and there is a resurgence of the alpha of apostacy.

This neo-restorationism is a dangerous heresy built without foundation.

There is a vast difference between truth and error; though through the influence of sectarianism many have come to the conclusion that the difference is quite unimportant. It makes no difference, say they, what a man believes, if he is only sincere. But it seems quite evident if we take the Scriptures for our guide in the matter, that men may be left really and sincerely” to believe a lie,” and that, as a consequence, they may be damned “who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” All admit that we must worship God in spirit, in order to our acceptance; but it is no less required of us that we should worship him in truth. And as God’s requirements are just, we may, notwithstanding all the jargon of sectarianism, attain to a knowledge of the truth.

What is truth? As Jesus came into the world to bear witness unto the truth, we will hear his testimony on the point. In his prayer to his Father in behalf of his disciples, he prays, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17.

The word of God is truth; and nothing he has ever uttered through the agency of prophets or apostles can have a higher claim to be called his word than the Ten Words which he spake from Sinai. Accordingly the Holy Spirit testifies by David, “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.” Psalm 119:142.

There is a term Present Truth and what seemed wrong to some of the Pioneers Is truth to us today. Truth moves forward, hence the term "Present Truth" while the truth of old was not wrong it is seen in a new light in our day. The Jews of old knew there is only one God. In Jesus time they could not accept the Son of God. Today some cannot accept the personhood of the Holy Spirit. Even so, there are many texts that point's out that truth.
