Adventist Online

It was either on September 28, or 29 (2014) I was between sleep and wake when I heard a voice say, ".Redva you need a dress reform" Although semiconscious, it grabbed my attention. Again I heard, "Redva you need a dress reform and the church needs one too so tell the church."

Immediately I got up and sent a text message to the church Personal Ministry Director who had asked me earlier to do the 10 minutes after Sabbath School the coming Sabbath morning and I was undecided because I was not feeling well, that I was now willing and ready to do the evangelistic charge as I have a special message to deliver.

During the night I was on the internet browsing,  reading and watching sermons and lo and behold there was a pastor  preaching: Topic- "The need for dress reform in the Adventist church." This came as a conformation to the vision I had earlier and so my resolve was strengthened to do dress reform for the 10 minutes session that Sabbath morning. This I did without fear or favour. It was well received by the shouts of amen.

Since that vision I have changed much in my mood of dress.

Some years ago I was talking to a church sister about dress and she said she hear it said that Adventist women do not wear jewelry but the shoes and hair styles and the extravagance in their dress make up for the jewelry. As I look around the church today we cannot differentiate the dress on Sabbath and the dress of the world.

The short and tight dresses with all kinds of cuts and styles. The sleeveless dresses, the big and extra high heel shoes are all there. The hair colour and styles, the painted faces and nails, the extended finger nails and eye lashes and even the bleach skin in some cases.

For the men, the hair cut and the tight fitting pants which show all the bulges.

Brethren these must go, they are an abomination unto the Lord. Go to the Spirit of God and ask how you must dress and you will be told to do all to the glory of God. If when you are dressed and you are not comfortable that the Spirit will walk with you, then, change your dress.

If you still have a challenge and like your worldly dress it means that you need a heart transformation so go to the foot of the cross.

Romans 12:1& 2 (KJV)

12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Read also Romans 13:11-14 and wake up.

Why hasn’t God pour out His wrath brethren?
Sis white says that the church has conformed to the standard of the world and God is waiting for His people to make a commitment to Him so we can be sealed. She says -
The line of distinction between professed Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable.
Brethren I got the message and I have delivered it. It is for you to decide what you will do with it. God bless you.
We can talk about this.

Hi Redva,
Thanks for your testimony. I have a question especially on jewelry. Am male and I have not won my wedding ring though my wife still bugs me to get her one. She also doesn't do jewelry painting and all that, she said it's her preference and she was raised that way and does not want"a needle her ears, thank you very much". I have been reluctant to speak against jewelry for women cause I felt it was upto them and God as I did not find a direct command in scripture. Actually what made me shut up on this was this verse; Ezekiel 16. And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood , I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood , Live ; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood , Live . I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field , and thou hast increased and waxen great , and thou art come to excellent ornaments : thy breasts are fashioned , and thine hair is grown , whereas thou wast naked and bare . Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love ; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness : yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD , and thou becamest mine. Then washed I thee with water ; yea, I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil . I clothed thee also with broidered work , and shod thee with badgers skin , and I girded thee about with fine linen , and I covered thee with silk . I decked thee also with ornaments , and I put bracelets upon thy hands , and a chain on thy neck . And I put a jewel on thy forehead , and earrings in thine ears , and a beautiful crown upon thine head . Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver ; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk , and broidered work ; thou didst eat fine flour , and honey , and oil : and thou wast exceeding beautiful , and thou didst prosper into a kingdom . And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty : for it was perfect through my comeliness , which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD .
I reasoned when Jesus said "if so and so causes thee to sin pluck it out " he meant things of this nature. The outward appearance says much about what is inside. Paul says let your beauty be that of the heart. Proverbs says guard ur heart for out of it are the issues of life. Also it says, my son give me thy heart. The Christian is not an correction of the outward person but a radical transformation of the heart growing day by day. That should also be emphasized coz " thts the power of salvation".
So is it necessarily forbidden to wear "tasteful jewelry or painting?" Kindly give me some biblical support.
God bless you.

Read further in Ezekiel for your answer.  Jewelry is form of idolatry. "It's like those who say I don't drink but it's OK to drink since there is no direct biblical command against it"  or smoking etc.

Hi Jason,
I re-read it and could not pinpoint exactly where it said wearing jewelry is idolatry. Could you guide me?
Regards

I will find you some more information on this later Mutinta.

I think we have made jewelry idolatry. Satan has allowed us as a church to become so focused and dress reform, Health reform, and entertainment, that I'm afraid we have turned many away from the saving grace of Christ and placed our emphases on behavior.

Keith

Keith I am not sure if I agree with you. I do not think those areas are emphasized but they do arise every now and again. Jesus and Him crucified is the emphasis in my conference and church here in Jamaica. We have many revivals and crusades. Seldom anything outside of Jesus is preached. What I do know is that the Sabbath is emphasized.

Hi Mutinta

yes will gladly help you. Here, from the same Ezekiel 16:

15 “But you thought your fame and beauty were your own. So you gave yourself as a prostitute to every man who came along. Your beauty was theirs for the asking. 1You used the lovely things I gave you to make shrines for idols, where you played the prostitute. Unbelievable! How could such a thing ever happen? 1You took the very jewels and gold and silver ornaments I had given you and made statues of men and worshiped them. This is adultery against me! 18 You used the beautifully embroidered clothes I gave you to dress your idols. Then you used my special oil and my incense to worship them.19 Imagine it! You set before them as a sacrifice the choice flour, olive oil, and honey I had given you, says the Sovereign Lord.

Do you see it now?

Ok interesting and frightening.

True Jason.

Hi Mutinta,

There are three principles here:

1. That of modesty/humility (see 1 Tim. 2:9, 10; 1 Pet. 3:3, 4);

2. Repentance (see Exod.33:5-6);

3. The antitypical Day of Atonement (Lev. 16:31 ; 23:27, 32)

So, SDAs do not wear jewellery because: self-adornment is a form of pride; repentance demands humility and; we are in the solemn time when all will be judged so the only adornment that we need is the character of Christ.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does thanks.

Glad you got some clarity here Mutinta.
