What does this scripture passage mean? What parts of the church body need to be treated with 'special modesty' or 'special honor'? Is this supposed to be about people and if so , who?

Corinthians 12:22-25-NIV Bible Gateway

22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

This just came up in the Chat Box.

It means those who are weaker in faith or have less talent are honored by God. And if they are honored by God then we as a body need to recognize our need of those people.

God Bless,

Joe.
Thank you Joe. The church body does need to realize that all parts of the church body are important. I am still confused about this passage though. Who ae the people who are weaker in faith? The people who seem to have less talent are who? Are they the people who aren't up front at church singing?
So are the members that are 'unpresentable' the one's that no one calls when they don't come to church?
nikki that dear one is what happens in modern churches today!few know what going on with anyone else.. I have been away from my home church for 3 Sabbaths in a row and no one called to see what happened!,
I work afternoon shift in at work and it can get you exhausted . I leave my house between 12.30 and 1 pm sunday to thursday.. Their be no set time limit , sometimes it is just 8 hours n other times its 12 or even more .so with this schedule I have not time for a church office as I once held .
I guess that would make me one of the least important then. . welcome to the 21 century!
I agree with what has be said here, but will try to make an offering as well.

Of course Paul is talking about the parts of the body, and he compares the parts of the human body with the parts [offices/ roles] within the Christian church.

In order of honor, he specifies those roles: "first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments [administrators], etc." (12:28)

Our comley parts (our most presentable parts), are people such as the apostles, prophets and teachers. These are 'our public face' as it were, and they do not need any embellishments. They basically say what they need to say, and among those that are willing to listen, these receive the greater honor.

The helpers and administrators are not as 'presentable', and so they are necessarily clothed [or bestowed with] "more abundant honor", because in a sense the apostle is "debtor" to the helper. They are all "brethren", and Christ is the head of them all. No one member is superior to the other, and for the co-ordinated operation of the body, each part is needed.

A humble brass peg securing the coverings of the Sanctuary-building constituted a part of the habitation of God, just as a gold plated board was a part of the structure.
