"Welcome all the Lord's followers, even those whose faith is weak. Don't criticize them for having beliefs that are different from yours. Some think it is all right to eat anything, while those whose faith is weak will eat only vegetables. But you should not criticize others for eating or for not eating. After all, God welcomes everyone. What right do you have to criticize someone else's servants? Only their Lord can decide if they are doing right, and the Lord will make sure that they do right. Some of the Lord's followers think one day is more important than another. Others think all days are the same. But each of you should make up your own mind. Any followers who count one day more important than another day do it to honor their Lord. And any followers who eat meat give thanks to God, just like the ones who don't eat meat. Whether we live or die, it must be for God, rather than for ourselves. Whether we live or die, it must be for the Lord. Alive or dead, we still belong to the Lord. This is because Christ died and rose to life, so that he would be the Lord of the dead and of the living. Why do you criticize other followers of the Lord? Why do you look down on them? The day is coming when God will judge all of us. In the Scriptures God says, "I swear by my very life that everyone will kneel down and praise my name!" And so, each of us must give an account to God for what we do."--Romans 14:1-12
Speaking as a progressive vegetarian, the LORD told Noah and again told the Children of Israel to eat clean meats without the blood or kosher (Genesis 9 & Leviticus 11). Our diet given by God before sin was vegan, after sin was vegetarian, and after the flood was clean meats. You have three choices as the Holy Spirit leads you.
To answer your question more directly, NO! The vegetarian and vegan diets are the healthiest, but are not a salvation issue. Jesus ate fish, EGW ate fish (she is not God, but this may be important to you), and most importantly our salvation is centered 100% on our relationship with Christ and obedience to Holy Scriptures:
"And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."--2 Timothy 3:15-17
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and pray. If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness."--1 Timothy 4:1-7
"God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the standard of all doctrines and the basis of all reforms. The opinions of learned men, the deductions of science, the creed or decisions of ecclesiastical councils, as numerous and discordant as are the churches which they represent, the voice of the majority-not one nor all of these should be regarded as evidence for or against any point of religious faith. Before accepting any doctrine or precept, we should demand a plain "Thus saith the Lord" in its support".--The Great Controversy, p. 595 (White)
Be Blessed!
Hastings, you have just made the point. People are confusing counsel with doctrine....All types of food are becoming unsafe. If we really want to take it there, the best methods of food are either coming from organic sources (because the standards are very different and strict that mainstream processing of food) or grow it in your own backyard.
People have different economic and health reasons for diet and it is so unChristlike to try to "scare a person" into feeling as though they will be "lost" because they ate meat! It just so heartbreaking!
Lord, help us, please!
Hastings
There is nothing that one takes into their body that is guaranteed to be safe in this sin sick world. So, the safest thing to do is to not eat at all. LOL
However, the Bible counsel and instruction in regards to food is on a scale. I call it the "Good, better and best" scale.
An example.
The "Best" is fresh, organically grown fruit straight from the plant. Let's take an apple as an example.
The "Better" is preserved fruits, grains and nuts. This would be "applesauce" as an example.
The "Good" is cooked fruits, grains and nuts. This would be apple pie. G.
Then there are two more gradiation on that scale, the first of which is: "allowed." This is where "clean" flesh foods of all kinds are included. Flesh foods, of the clean category which are properly prepared are allowed, but because of the "hardness of our hearts."
Then the last gradiation on the scale is "forbidden." This would include all that is harmful, e.g. strong drink and "unclean" foods. Man has never been given permission by God to eat anything in this category. Included in this forbidden level would be even clean meat that still retains the blood and fat. This has never been allowed, no matter what kind of host it is in.
Those who are preparing to go to heaven will attempt to live as close to the divine plan as possible. They will seek to get their nurishment from the "Best" level of the above scale. However, it would not be a sin to partake from the next three levels. However, to eat that which God has forbidden would be to invite destruction in the end.
So, the question is this: "Just how important is it in your life to live as close to what God has shown to be the best level of gaining nurishment?" Your answer to this may just reveal that in fact you have another god in your life that is more important than the God of heaven. One that needs to be brought into subjection the the God of the Universe.
Maranatha :)
Ray
Ray i think you misunderstood my point, i was not talking about the forbidden meat but instead i was talking about the flesh that God allowed us to eat.
i do not think it is right for you to say i have another god in my life besides the God of the universe simply because i do not agree with your so called best, better and good food you prescribed with your own criteria perhaps subjective.
can you just make me understand if God didn`t know that in the last days meat would have diseases in it. many people come up with their own theology when explaining this in order to suit themselves.
i do not believe that God allowed meat after the flood simply bcoz there was no vegetation (an assumption held by many). God is never stranded, if he did not want people at that time to eat meat he was going to feed them with manner from heaven just like he did to the israelites in the wilderness where there was no vegetation. and if you say meat was allowed bcoz there was no vegetation, then how did the animals survive that were with noah in the ark?
And I have to agree with Hastings, according to the Word of God. Ray, we have to be be careful that our perspectives are not Phariasical in our well-meaning.
There are going to be many, many people who eat meat and that are saved in the Kingdom! The Health Message is so much more than whether or not a person eats meat....it is BALANCED. It is also about getting EXERCISE and not being overweight. We defile out temples by not getting the exercise that we need to sustain our selves and suffer through mood swings--especially vegans, because there are other things that must be replaced in the diet. The "good", "better", and "best" were allowed for more than one reason. Sin costs.
Some people are expecting to live on the diet before sin, without having to make other lifestyle adjustments that also impact our health. It is a grave mistake.
Thanks for a well elaborated answer Ray. Now i know that its not a sin to eat chicken:). But with God's help i will endeavor to eat the Best category of the diet, the original diet. And Ray, am still waiting my Great Controversy you said you will send me. My Address: EVANS CHALWE, MADISON GENERAL INSURANCE COMPANY ZAMBIA LTD, BOX 37013, LUSAKA, ZAMBIA, CENTRAL AFRICA. Thanks and happy sabbath.
