Comment by Bryan Rowe on February 20, 2012 at 1:29am The Refiner's Fire
"'Is not my word like fire,' declares the LORD, 'and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?'" (Jeremiah 23:29)
"For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God." (Deuteronomy 4:24)
Scripture Focus: Malachi 3:2-3
Someone once described to me the process of refining gold. The gold is subjected to a very hot fire until it melts. This causes imbedded impurities to separate and rise to the surface. The dross can then be skimmed off, allowing the worker to see his reflection on the surface of the pure, precious metal.
God desires to prepare a people for Himself (Zechariah 13:9). But first, the Master Refiner must remove our dead hearts of stone and replace them with living hearts of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). We need the holy fire of God's Word to melt our stony hearts and burn away the dross of sin and impurity. Christ died to cleanse and redeem even the vilest of hearts. He alone has the power and authority to forgive sin and free the captive from its power.
Once the refining fire of God's Word softens the heart, He then hammers and shapes it, forging something glorious for His holy use. He is preparing for Himself a spotless bride that will reflect His glory (Ephesians 5:25b-27).
Insight: Are You Yielding Yourself To The Fire And Hammer Of God's Word So That His Glory Can Be Reflected In Your Life?

Comment by Ross Sawyer on October 1, 2011 at 1:00pm Well, I should share my story. At my last job about 4 years ago now. I taught at a high school that was very stressful. I was a new teacher enthusiastic and not at all expecting what I encountered. I had never been under daily unrelenting stress where you wonder if you will have a job the next day, if you will be fired or the school will simply close cause it was ran so poorly. Over time it really took a toll. I ended up resigning after 2 years. I was asked to return a 3rd year but my heart was no longer there. The whole ordeal lead to a panic attack just prior to my resignation and I suffered anxiety/depression for several months after. I've always taken things to heart and i also am someone who doesn't like to quit when I choose to take on a task. When I do commit to something I try to see it through to the end. I think it was really difficult making that decision to leave and feeling so burned out. i had heard of teachers that had to take Valium or other anti depressants just to function in class. I never wanted to do that.
Nevertheless, my bout with anxiety was difficult. I felt very unsure, fearful, stressed, depressed, I had no interest in anything but thank God there is a God and I he has helped me cope. Praise Jesus. I think one of the things Jesus showed me is that this is an insane world so for us to have anxiety or feel sad or stressed is normal, if we don't something is wrong with us. The key is to focus on God and remember he is still in control. That always seems to help me when I go threw a bad time now or when I feel a touch of anxiety coming one.
