Partial List Of Abominations In The Seventh Day Adventist Church

Partial List Of Abominations In The Church

1. Lack of reverence in the house of God: Isa. 56:7; Volume 5, pages 492-500.

2. Following the fashions of the world: Isa. 3:16; Volume 1, pages
269, 270; Volume 4, page 632; Volume 3, page 379; Volume 5, page 78; Volume 1, pages 189-191; Volume 1, pages 135, 136; Volume 4, page 631.

3. Spending money for that which is not bread (health reform): Isa. 55:2; Volume 5, page 197; Isa. 56:12. (Many references can be given from the testimonies on this subject, but space will not permit them here.)

4. Use of tithe--school teachers (those who teach the Scriptures)are not paid by the tithe as they should have been: Volume 6, page 215.

5. The house of God is made into a house of merchandise by buying and selling denominational publications of all sorts: Isa. 58:3; Isa. 56:7; Volume 1, pages 471, 472; Volume 8, page 250.

6. High prices in our institutions while they should be below current expenses: Volume 8, page 142; Isa. 56:12; Isa. 58.

7. Disbelief in the Spirit of Prophecy: If not acknowledged by words, it is admitted by works.

8. Failed to inform church members of Elijah's message: Mal. 4:5; Testimonies to Ministers, page 475; Volume 4, pages 402, 403.

9. Abraham obeyed God in all that He commanded, and was very careful even to the smallest particulars; thus it was counted to him for righteousness, but we have not done so. See Gen. 26:5; Gen. 15:6.

10. The promise of the land (heavenly Canaan) is to Abraham's seed. Jesus said, "If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham. [If ye are not the children of Abraham] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do." See John 8:39-44. (By doing the works of Abraham), "Then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." Gal. 3:29

11. Insisting that we have all the truth and have need of nothing.

12. Turning down Scriptural claims without investigation as to its light. Volume 5 page 211: "The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed."

Hi Raul, that's pretty strong language there--abominations. Just two questions. (1) How do you, or how does God's word, define an abomination? (2) Should the presence of all these "abominations" affect the way we view and relate to the church?

God's blessings.
Hi Raul,
I agree that there are issues that are imperfect with our church. But abominations? I see the problems as problems of a sinful race doing it's best to follow God's will. Do we do it perfectly? Absolutely not. We fail constantly. Are we striving for perfection? Yes. And we succeed a lot with our church as well. In fact we succeed orders of magnitude more than we fail. We do need to be vigilant and constantly work towards improving our church. But I would suggest that you compose another list with what you suggest we do about the problems you point out. Everyone can be a critic. But what are your solutions?

Blessings and Prayers,
Amen Clark, wise words. Also, just pointing out the adventist church makes it sound like we're babylon or something. All churches have issues they need to work out, but in spite of ourselves God is still working in all, non-adventists included.
This is also proven by the "Spirit of Prophecy," for we read: "This sealing of the servants of God (144,000) is the same that was shown to Ezekiel in vision." -- "Testimonies to Ministers," page 445. We quote from "Testimonies for the Church," Vol. 3, p. 266: "The true people of God, who have the spirit of the work of the Lord, and the salvation of souls at heart, will ever view sin in its real, sinful character. They will always be on the side of faithful and plain dealing with sins which easily beset the people of God. Especially in the closing work for the church, in the sealing time of the 144,000. Mark this point with care: Those who receive the pure mark of truth, wrought in them by the power of the Holy Ghost, represented by a mark by the man in linen, are those 'that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done' in the church.... Read the ninth chapter of Ezekiel. But the general slaughter of all those who do not thus see the wide contrast between sin and righteousness, and do not feel as those do who stand in the counsel of God and receive the mark, is described in the order to the five men with the slaughter weapons: 'Go ye after him through the city, and smite; let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity; slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women; but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary.' "
Cause Of Sighing And Crying Volume 5, pages 210, 211, 12: "In the time when his wrath shall go forth in judgments, these humble, devoted followers of Christ will be distinguished from the rest of the world by their soul-anguish, which is expressed in lamentation and weeping reproofs and warnings. While others try to throw a cloak over the existing evil, and excuse the great wickedness everywhere prevalent, those who have a zeal for God's honor and a love for souls, will not hold their peace to obtain favor of any. Their righteous souls are vexed day by day with the unholy works and conversation of the unrighteous. They are powerless to stop the rushing torrent of iniquity, and hence they are filled with grief and alarm. They mourn before God to see religion despised in the very homes of those who have had great light. They lament and afflict their souls because pride, avarice, selfishness, and deception of almost every kind are in the church. The Spirit of God, which prompts to reproof, is trampled under foot, while the servants of Satan triumph. God is dishonored, the truth made of none effect....The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed."They had taken the position that we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God's power as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say, The Lord will not do good, neither will He do evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus peace and safety is the cry from men who will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together. The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed....Our own course of action will determine whether we shall receive the seal of the living God, or be cut down by the destroying weapons." read the followings refs. {1MR 260.2} {1888 1303.1} Rev. 3:14-19, 2 Chr. 36:14,17
"And there shall in no wise enter into [the city] any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." Rev. 21:27.
Let us all, as a Seventh Day Adventist band, remember that we are called to the high office of conservators of the gospel, restorers of the old paths, repairers of the breach. We are called as the first of the "firstfruits" from Laodicea, and thus we are to serve as "saviours" to and of Laodicea (Obad. 17, 21). Hence, obviously, before we can save our brethren from the fatally pernicious malady of Laodiceanism, we must first save ourselves from it. And to do this, we must now and forever absolutely stop treating symptoms, and instead get at the cause; stop dosing ourselves first for this, then for that, but instead correctly apply the sovereign remedy, the message in the heart, until a complete cure is effected.
Accordingly, he who really means to be present and accounted for in the swift-coming Kingdom of God is perseveringly exploring and applying the divine principles and laws of the Science of Salvation. He is earnestly laying hold upon the all-enabling power of divine grace to do all that the Truth bids him do, first things first, and all things "decently and in order" (1 Cor. 14:40), not each thing catch-as-catch-can when the urge strikes.
It is this careless, sporadic, hit-and-miss, irregular sort of effort to live "the principles of the doctrine of Christ," that has resulted in Seventh-day Adventists' laying again and again down through the years "the foundation of repentance from dead works." While all the time thinking ourselves full of zeal "according to knowledge," we all, as Seventh-day Adventists, have grown more and more lukewarm, lapsing little by little into a mechanical, cut-and-dried performance of the Truth, which must inevitably cause all who persist in it to be spued out.
I appreciate your zeal. But each of us are individuals. Each of us has to take responsibility for our own behavior. So a negative attack on the church as a whole does nothing to make it's members better and more ready for Christ.

I asked what you would do as an individual to help make the church better. I don't see an answer in your large post of quotes.

What is your purpose of posting this list of abominations? What do you want to happen after people read your post?

We all know the church is not perfect. It never will be in this sinful world. What do you suggest we do to be a part of the solution instead of the problem? I'd like to have an honest dialog... not just cutting-and-pasting quotes that aren't answering questions asked.

God bless.
I think that those "abominations" were outlined for each of us to examine ourselves, not to attack the church.

While you examine yourself to see how you may be contributing to the "abominations" in the church, pray for the church. Daniel was a righteous man, but he did not condemn his people. He prayed for them, using words like "we" and "us". He did not feel like He was super-righteous and his people were the worst sinners imaginable. He, like Christ with us, associated himself with them.

Be careful, my brother, for you are treading on dangerous ground. I do not know you, but from the tenor of your article, you seem to think that you are above the church. Be careful. I know that those who "sigh and cry for the abominations done", are the ones who in vision, were sealed, but I sensed accusation and beration, not sighing and crying.

I was like that once. You know what happened? I fell. That humbled me quickly! Be careful. "Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."

I appreciate your concerns, and hope that we as a people get so close to God that those things will no longer apply to us.

Take care.
I read this lengthy contribution, and certain words just leapt out of the page, leading me to one conclusion: Davidian Seventh-day Adventist!! I don't remember ever reading anything from these brethren which has strengthened my faith. I regret that.
Dear Sister PrincessAnmi Do you believe the church is going through in its present condition of lukewarmness. Do you think that reproof is hatred or love for the church. Did our prophet hate her church when she gave her scathing rebukes. I think not. She wrote: Satan will work his miracles to deceive; he will set up his power as supreme. The church may appear as about to fall, but it does not fall. It remains, while the sinners in Zion will be sifted out--the chaff separated from the precious wheat. This is a terrible ordeal, but nevertheless it must take place. None but those who have been overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony will be found with the loyal and

true, without spot or stain of sin, without guile in their mouths. We must be divested of our self-righteousness and arrayed in the righteousness of Christ. {12MR 324.3}
The remnant that purify their souls by obeying the truth gather strength from the trying process, exhibiting the beauty of holiness amid the surrounding apostasy. All these, He says, "I have graven . . . upon the palms of my hands" [Isa. 49:16]. They are held in everlasting, imperishable remembrance. We want faith now, living faith. We want to have a living testimony that shall cut to the heart of the sinner. There is too much sermonizing and too little ministering. We want the holy unction. We need the spirit and fervor of the truth. Many of the ministers are half paralyzed by their own defects of character. They need the converting power of God. {12MR 325.1}
That which God required of Adam before his fall was perfect obedience to His law. God requires now what He required of Adam, perfect obedience, righteousness without a flaw, without shortcoming in His sight. God help us to render to Him all His law requires. We cannot do this without that faith that brings Christ's righteousness into daily practice. {12MR 325.2}
Dear brethren, the Lord is coming. Lift up your thoughts and heads and rejoice. Oh, we would think that those who hear the joyful news, who claim to love Jesus, would be filled with joy unutterable and full of glory. This is the good, the joyful news which should electrify every soul, which should be repeated in our homes, and told to those whom we meet on the street. What more joyful news can be communicated! Caviling and contention with believers or unbelievers is not the work God has given us to do.
I hope you believe this. God is whetting His sword in heaven to cut down the lukewarm believers ."Many, I saw, were flattering themselves that they were good Christians, who have not a single ray of light from Jesus. They know not what it is to be renewed by the grace of God. They have no living experience for themselves in the things of God. And I saw that the Lord was whetting His sword in heaven to cut them down. Oh, that every lukewarm professor could realize the clean work that God is about to make among His professed people! Dear friends, do not deceive yourselves concerning your condition. You cannot deceive God. Says the True Witness: "I know thy works." The third angel is leading up a people, step by step, higher and higher. At every step they will be tested. {1T 189.2} Is Sister White hating her church or warning them in love by saying these things. Wake up sister. Quit fighting against Jesus voice sent to save you. He is standing at the door of your heart. To accept this unpopular truth is to let Him in. Truth has always been unpopular and always will be. But truth alone saves us from our errors.
Dear Leroy, I have always refrained from using the word "judging" but when I read what you just wrote, I cannot help but feel that somehow, you and others like you are sitting there thinking that all who subscribe to your views are caught in the snare of lukewarmness and Laodicean complacency. I find that nauseating. I understand your zeal in seeking to proclaim your message, but I fear that you are taking the work of judgment on yourselves.

My brothers, do not flatter or deceive yourselves. Shall you resort to branding everyone as lukewarm who does not embrace your message with open arm? And I know you're going to say it's not yours; it's the Lord's, through the Bible and SOP. Fine I read both. In fact, I have personally read and taken to heart much of what you cited above, and in response, I have, as a minister, been led to do much soul searching, praying and exhorting. But I realize the extent to which you would conveniently use the same things we both read to make your point.

And that's what I feel badly about. As I read what Sister White has written, I do not feel condemned because I have made a prayerful response to it. However, I don't agree with you.

Will you now judge me as lukewarm?
Raul, I really think that you should be more honest about what you are posting. Citations are always helpful, particularly if what you are posting is the work of someone else.

The opening post is Victor Houteff's "Partial List..." For those who don't know, Victor Houteff was the founder of the Davidian Seventh-Day Adventists. Houteff broke from the SDA church and set up the Davidians believing that he, not the church, was the anti-typical spirit of Elijah and John the Baptist. Houteff taught that he was the angel with the writer's inkhorn in Ezekiel 9 and that the only members of the SDA church who would receive the seal, his seal, would be those who "sigh" over the list of Abominations in the church that he produced.

The second post is taken from "Symbolic Codes", Vol.9, 1-12 January-December, 1943. This is a Shepherd's Rod publication also authored by Houteff.

Perhaps this explains why the use of the word "abominations". This is Houteff trying to prove a particular point and setting up a "test" for salvation. Houteff's test, which may decide if you live or die.

The solution, of course, is to embrace Houteff's teachings and receive the "his" seal. According to his teachings, all SDAs who don't sigh over his list of abominations will not be sealed. They will receive the fate described in Ezekiel 9 when the angels with the slaughter weapons begin their work. Perhaps that also explains why there has been a Davidian fascination with guns?

Anyway, I just wanted to make plain what is being posted - this is Shepherds Rod, Davidian literature.

I feel that posts like these are akin to lying. Personally, I don't trust or buy anything from people who hide the truth. In spiritual areas I particularly object to this form of deceit.
Thanks JonhB for pointing this out to us.

If Raoul is quoting from Houteff and if he is a Shepherd's Rod member, I believe he should say so.

We know that Mrs White talked about the alpha and omega of apostasies and but it had nothing to do with those things mentioned in the list except may be for the way the Spirit of Prophecy is being treated.

The alpha and omega of apostasies are attacks upon the pillars of our faith, especially against the foundation and central pillar of the Advent Movement, the sanctuary doctrine.

Thank you for explaining this JohnB. I was uneasy reading the original post as it seemed to simply tear down the church. It did not seem to want to improve the church but instead fracture it. Raul did not answer the question put to him about his goals in posting this material... but I think we can safely assume that since Davidian / Shepherd's Rod goals are to convince people to leave the SDA church, the original post has a similar goal.
